Not sure if witch-hunt is the correct term to use in this situation. Basically witch-hunts are used by governments or groups to create an air of moral panic or mass hysteria.

An example of a witch-hunt in recent memory would be Rebekah (What's phone hacking?" Brooks at the NOW when they ran a campaign to name and shame sex offenders. This led to vigilante groups attacking innocent individuals. For example a woman who was a paediatrician was forced to leave her home when her house was daubed with "paedo". No comment!!!!

This was a step back to the 17th and early 18th centuries in Britain when people saw witches here there and everywhere.

I guess what we want is the legal system to pursue alleged paedophiles irrespective of their position in society rather than a "witch-hunt".

If it's against paedophiles and other criminals it's not a witch hunt, it's a justified exercise in bringing people to justice.

A witch hunt is searching for anyone that can be fitted up, irrespective of their guilt or indeed innocence.

As someone who was a child in the 70s, just wondering if any of my memories will survive intact.

Thursday nights: Top of the Pops (King, Savile, Glitter)
Friday: It's a Knockout (Hall)
Saturday: Rolf on Saturday, OK!

Radio 1 Breakfast (DLT... tbc)

It's a shame that a number of 1970's TV people have now been nicked for kiddie-fiddling. It does sour the memories a bit for our generation, I too was a kid in the 1970's. I wonder who will be next. It was a very different culture back then, kids weren't really listened to and adults who were famous could more or less do what they liked. I'm glad things are different now.

Intersting comment at work. What if it became knowledge that someone like Mozart was a paedo? Would orchestras stop playing his works? I have it on very good authority from several sources that one of Europe's greatest ever sportsman had a massive taste for under age girls and travelled to play in the Far East at every opportunity.

If the press relentlessly went on about Mozart being a kiddy-fiddler (let's say he was for arguments sake) and it was on the news daily for months and all over the papers, like Saville was and has been, then I'm sure you'd hear on TV after a while how certain music publishers "are no longer going to be selling his manuscripts" and how "well known record shops are no longer going to be stocking CD's where other people recite his music". That would happen I'm sure.

There are other celebs who got it on with underage groupies, girls of 14 etc. Certain well known bands of the 60s and 70s did and maybe its just a matter of time until those girls, now middle-aged women, come forward and press charges. I'm surprised none have yet with all the media coverage of these type things recently. There might be one or two well known rockstars of that era who are shitting it now - and are nervously waiting for that knock on the door.

Bill Wyman managed to fuck a 13-year-old without getting his collar felt so I doubt that they are that worried...
