Very interesting story Max and a reflection of working class late-night life in
London of 2014. Personally I agree that there is a definite correlation between
violence and booze in the UK. I am sure many other places are the same.
Oddly enough, as I am a night owl here in Budapest, I have never ever seen
a fight on the streets late at night or any violence to speak of in the wee
hours. Young people being sick on booze, yes, guys and gals being very loud,
sure, but violence - no. It is a cultural thing.....as another example, in UK
youngsters don`t seem to give up their seat much to old people on the Tube
anymore while here its a common sight. its a cultural thing and London is a
big place.

There is a certainly a correlation between booze and violence, and it is almost a British tradition to combine the two. The pubs in London were open late on Saturday because of the England v Italy football match, with the time change between here and Brazil the game started at 11.00pm our time and the pubs kicked out at about 1.20am. These two bits of trouble occurred 15 or 20 minutes after that, so it is very likely all the people I mentioned had been watching the match, boozing till just after 1.00am, then went out and either did, or almost did, have a fight. Because of the longer opening hours that night most people who might have had 5 or 6 beers when they go out probably had 7 or 8. Possibly 9. Then people head out into the streets and then trouble begins. There is certainly a culture of drinking and violence in the UK.
