Stuart Hall found NOT GUILTY of rape
Well, well. well but to be honest i thought this would happen. I'm a staunch and ardent disliker of out and out sexul abusers/predators but in this particular case from the snippets i heard on the news i knew Hall would be found not guilty of rape. Two women said they went to him repeatedly to get raped. That doesn't make any sense at all. I've never heard of a woman going to a man to be raped over and over again through free will and without threats. If anyone does know of cases that like that, let me know. I was not in court but Hall will be sentenced for indecent assault.
Quotes from The Guardian Paper (Online)
During this trial, both complainants were accused of making up their claims in order to receive compensation.
But the jury were ultimately not convinced that either women were under the age of consent when Hall had sex with them. (The Guardian's interpretation).
Girl A's solicitors had written to the defendant's lawyers as part of a civil claim in which they asked for ?20,000 in "a full and final settlement", the jury at Preston crown court heard.
Cross-examining the complainant, Aylett said: "That is what you have been after all along. Compensation."
The witness replied: "If I was purely after compensation do you really honestly believe I would have put myself through this yesterday and today, and now knowing that it is all out in the open?
"You are making me sound like a bit of a gold-digger. Well, there are easier ways of making money."

Re: Stuart Hall found NOT GUILTY of rape
Only in Britain - love it or hate it - do the authorities go after just about
every famous comedian or disc jockey of the 1960s-80s on the basis that
one other man (Jimmy Saville) was a complete bastard. Yes, yes, I know
we all abhor rape. Its important we do. Especially if we work in the porn
industry. But I frankly find it uncomfortable to see old men in their eighties,
most of whom did many charity events etc., standing in the dock and being
confronted by witnesses of supposed sexual activity 40 and 50 years ago.
Hell - I can`t remember what I did last week never mind four decades ago !
I doubt it these witnesses can either....AND they are allowed anonymity
(which surely encourages them to be wild in accusations) while the old feller
in the dock is snapped, has all his sexual peccadillos exposed in the Press,
whatever respect he had - even if he wins his case - shoved down the toilet.
Over here in mainland Europe such tosh from 3-4-5 decades back simply
would be thrown out....as it is I suspect so would almost all these cases if it
were not for Mr Saville.
Oh, how the British love to moralise.....I am English but hypocrisy remains
our national vice.

I can't believe what I've just read.

They didn't go after everyone because Jimmy Saville was a cunt. The went after people who'd had people go to the police and complain of being raped or sexually abused in some way.
Yes, yes, I know we all abhor rape.
Jesus......you say that so begrudgingly.

I find it more uncomfortable to see men in their eighties using their age and the passing of time as an excuse to get away with rape.

I'm sure you'd remember raping somebody, or fiddling with an underage girl. Unless, of course, you'd raped and fiddled with that many, you'd lost count.
I doubt it these witnesses can either....AND they are allowed anonymity
Fuck sake.......no wonder women were so scared of coming forward in the past with attitudes like yours. Are you really doubting if a girl is raped by a man old enough to be her father, she'll forget all about it a few years down the line? And the reason they're allowed anonymity is because they might feel ashamed or embarrassed about what happened. If I'd been arse raped as a kid I don't think I'd like everyone at the local pub knowing about it. Would you? Jesus Christ, man.

I'm not sure if that's true, but if it is then shame on them. The passing of a few decades shouldn't make you exempt from prosecution of such a vile crime.
I will say one thing, though. I think both the accused and the accuser should be allowed anonymity in such cases until a guilty verdict is made. The only good point you made is that some celebrities who are cleared will be left with their reputation in tatters and they've been innocent all along. That's wrong. We know that mud sticks and that because of the stigma attached to sexual crimes, the 'there's no smoke without fire' mantra will still run through a lot of peoples' minds.
Anonymity for all until there's a guilty verdict.......that seems fair and sensible.

Re: Stuart Hall found NOT GUILTY of rape
Interesting take on how three sites reported the news:
Daily Mail: Veteran BBC broadcaster Stuart Hall found NOT GUILTY of 19 charges of sexual assault but guilty of ONE indecent assault
The Sun: Paedo Stuart Hall is found guilty of sex attack on teen
The Guardian have changed theirs but they went for a guilty verdict headline.
Now The Sun is not surprising but I thought the Mail would have had similar and Guardian been more restrained but apparently it's just a tabloid now...
By the way, it's S-A-V-I-L-E as in vile NOT Saville.

Re: Stuart Hall found NOT GUILTY of rape
The Guardian is in dire financial trouble, a lot of their old Labour supporters are now so rich as to find the Telegraph downmarket. They need tabloid type headlines to get buyers these days. Hall was obviously a twunt but there must be a lot of dead BBC execs spinning in their graves knowing they let him keep working.

I get your jist Frank but it's really about going after peados. The thing about both parties being anonymous solves the whole problem. If i was a 'celeb' peado in the 1960s-80s and still alive i would be quaking in my boots right now.

The problem is if you were a celeb. in the 70's you should be quaking in your boots.
The disgraceful way Yewtree is being run means that anyone if fair game. All it needs is a complaint, and it's the 'six o'clock knock'. And at that point, innocence or guilt doesn't matter, it's game over.
Complaints are being taken as fact, no due diligence is performed, everyone is guilty until proved innocent.
Truly shocking way to conduct an investigation.

If that is true, your political views, Argie are probably the main reason why you are still wandering round Cumbria with your arse hanging out of your kecks!

Re: Stuart Hall found NOT GUILTY of rape
Frank,
That doesnt negate the fact the man should be brought to justice. I'm sure there was solid evidence to bring these people to court so lets not make this out to be a McCarthy style witch hunt on celebs.
I'd go one step further to suggest all this attention is to deflect from the real powerful and scary fuckers from being exposed.
Its no coincidence that all this anti porn, regulation, filtering, censoring, ban porn to save the children has come about at the same time as all these allegations in the wake of Jimmy Savile.
I think the americans refer to this as "the shit hits the fan"
I know im implying a conspiracy theory of sorts but the timing is interesting when you coonssider the internet is the subject of a lot of scrutiny with the Bradley Mannings and Julian Assanges/ wikileaks...Just keep an open mind I say
If anything I'm pissed off that these people managed to hold a career all their lives and now they've got one foot in the grave people decide to out them. I'm understanding and sympathetic to the reasons they give of fear.

Re: Stuart Hall found NOT GUILTY of rape
I forgot to mention Ted Heath.
Theres a reason why he is labelled "The forgotten" prime minister. Im sure with the new powers passed where people can erase their scumbag pasts the allegations levelled at him and his affiliation with Savile will be amended.
The sample used in this song is from a barrister who made te allegation about Heath. Interestng to note that no action was taken on the possibiity it was libellous.
If that accusation was on me I'd be baying for blood.I serioously doubt Thatcher just hated him for being a homosexual and you can bet the stink of this corruption goes up way higher than just Ted Heath
