But whilst there is no nice way of killing, that doesn't mean we should accept the nastier ways, especially when they're carried out for no other reason than to placate a bunch of religious nut jobs.

We have need of you again, great king.

So I take it you will be asking your waitress each time you dine out now if your meat is halal/kosher and then refuse to eat it if a) it is or b) she doesn't know?

Actually, I do. I ask on booking a table or walking into the place. I don't get to eat out often enough for it to be a major problem, and I tend to be a creature of habit and eat at the same places often if I find somewhere I like.

I'm not militant about it, I won't spoil someone else's event by refusing to eat there and ranting about the subject, but if I have the time and ability to find out if halal meat is used, I will. Sometimes, your friends want to pop into Costa Coffee, so I go along with it, but, as I did this morning as I was alone, I avoided Costa and got my coffee elsewhere.

As I stated above, I insisted I wasn't served halal meat when I was last in hospital. (I also said I was happy not to be given meat at all for them to accomplish that)

I buy virtually all my meat from the local farm shop, so unless the farmer is pulling a fast one, the meat can be traced from field to fork, and I know there's no nut job saying a prayer as he slaughters it.

But it is difficult, I buy ready meals from the supermarket, and it's just about impossible to find out if the meat used in those is halal or not. I'm sure I get it wrong quite often as it's so difficult to find out the information.

You're absolutely right. It is difficult to know the provenance of meat.

What I don't understand though is why halal meat appears to be cheaper than "normal" meat. Given the additional process it has to go through I'd have thought it should be more expensive.

Ninety-nine per cent of meat served in curry houses is halal so anyone who wants to avoid halal should steer clear of "Indian" restaurants, which in most case are Bengali anyway.

"This country just rolls over and panders to their every need. They don't like this, they don't like that. Every day someone somewhere is offending them."

That's what you read in the press and it's mostly all made up.

"Offended by pork, doesn't stop them selling it in their corner shops though does it?. Much the same with booze, their religion frowns upon it, still sell it to our teenagers though eh?."

Hypocrisy exits everywhere. It's not exclusive to any particular religion.

"Mind you, up here in Scotland their are very few of them. They are all down in England and you can fucking well keep them there."

That's no way to talk about your fellow Scots.

"PIZZA Express is using halal chicken in every meal that contains the meat ? but customers only find out if they ask."

Customers should be informed before they eat their meal whether or not it contains Halal meat. Doesn't all meat taste the same regardless of how it's killed though?

No thanks and Enoch was right. A right wing wally or a brainwashing racist. You decide.

"Mandatory and prominent labelling "WE USE CRUELLY SLAUGHTERED MEAT HERE" should exist for people who want to suck up to the 'people who must never be criticised for anything ever'"

'We use cruelly slaughtered meat' is subjective. Most non Muslims are happy to eat meat regardless of how it's killed. It's a win win for food outlets/suppliers. Please note most animals used for Halal meat are stunned first.

The meat isn't the issue. It is the fact Muslim views are being considered above and beyond everyone else. Do Pizza Express and Subway have a Kosher option? Bet they don't.

The Sun's coverage today...

Post by max_tranmere »

The Sun's front page feature, large double-page inside feature, and editorial, today makes interesting reading. I bought a copy and as you can see they really go to town in the editorial!

Quote: "It may not bother you one bit that the chicken on your Pizza Express pizza was secretly slaughtered in the name of Allah. Before becoming your tasty topping, the bird had its neck slit by a muslim slaughterman who turned it towards Mecca and dedicated it to his god by saying "Allahu Akbar".

You can always rely on The Sun to go over the top! So, all across the country "muslim slaughtermen" apparently turn birds towards Mecca and yell "Allahu Akbar" before slaying them. These slaughterhouses must be noisy places with the endless cries of "Allahu Akbar"! The slaughtermen must come near to losing their voices too, with them yelling it out thousands of times a day! The Sun is one crazy paper!
