Fucking business exploiting people. We are becoming a nation of slaves. What is Labour going to do about it?
Zero hours contracts
Re: Zero hours contracts
Labour unfortunately will do nothing.
Its a shame there isn't a more working class left leaning UKIP equivalent people could vote for.

Re: Zero hours contracts
Businesses have always exploited people ? just now they are less secretive about it. They even give the game away in job titles ? personnel is good, shows a "personal" touch. Now? Human resources. What do you do with resources? Use them up and throw them away...

Not a huge amount, but at least it is a start
The coalition needs nailing on this "we created 1.2 million jobs". Of these 1.2 million "new jobs"
1. 600,000 of them are self employed i.e. they have no guarantee of work of any kind and I suspect are people who have decided to give it a go being self-employed when they couldn't get a part time or full time permanent job.
2. 200,000 of them are college lecturers etc etc who have been reassigned from the public sector to the private sector.
3. A huge increase in zero hour contracts jobs which Porn Baron refers to in the link provided.
4. Various work schemes for the unemployed.
So in short the actual number of what we would call "proper jobs" created by this government is minimal.

I don't think milliband has the answer. Employers will simply stop using those on ZHC after say 10 months so employer need not provide any contract ever.
Why should people have to work an entire year first with no guarantee of hours and income?
The other thing is the tax payer gets screwed. These people have their wage topped up with benefits. The employer is being subsided by the tax payer. I bet they get out of paying employer NI contributions too?

Which is what that self-righteous, right-on rag The Guardian does. You don't get paid unless you agree to leave before you get employee rights. But at least they have a good canteen...

I agree. It is just a start and there are too many loopholes. Unless those loopholes are closed it will have a limited effect.
Re: Porn Baron
On the the bright side at least there thousands of Eastern Europeans for the employers to use and thetaxpayer subsidise.
Re: Zero hours contracts
Another angle is being taken on at a job but being semi self employed.
I had this for a time when working at Greenwich council.
You are employed by a umbrella company and an agency. You don't get holiday or sick pay and you have to submit a expenses form and time sheet every week.
The place you are working at can at anytime just call the agency and tell them they don't want you anymore.
Oh and the umbrella company can take ?20 - ?30 a week from you just for doing some of your taxes.

Ah yes if we only stop those pesky Eastern European immigrants, Britain will be the land of milk and honey for all.
