52 is premature for anyone to die.

Re: Milk Tray Man
Sad to see him die at 52 but an old school TU bully who said one thing but lived the life an executive off his members.

A working class hero
In a world where British politicians spend all their time trying to avoid offending people as far as possible Bob Crow was a breath of fresh air as a union leader who said what he thought, bluntly at times and defended the rights to a decent wage for working men and women in a world increasingly dominated by internships, short term contracts, work fare etc. etc.
He is a sad loss. RIP.
The only people who should be against the likes of Bob Crow are the bosses who get richer and richer off the back of their increasingly low paid workforce.
Anyone else who does not support the likes of Bob Crow seems to me to be confused, misguided or just plain, stupid.

Define, as the great Derek and Clive put it "Werking claarse"...our local paper was advertising for train drivers last week at the paltry salary of errrr ?45-50k a year with BUPA....or double the average wage.
Re: Bob Crow has died...
Just goes to show what a good job he did for the members who paid his wages.
I wish the leader of my union was doing as good a job as he was doing for his people.

Argie
I realise there are many definitions but for me it is the social group consisting of people who are employed for wages, especially in manual or industrial work. The working class can also include people in white collar or service work e.g. retail, cleaning etc.
The working class works for wages because it does not own independent means of income generation. Typically the working class earns below average wages though there may be people who are working class who own above average e.g. tube train drivers, workers on car production line etc.

DJ's working class hero
Bob Crow apparently modelled himself on Arthur Scargill but with one big difference ? he increased membership of his union. In fact so popular was Crow that he was re-elected unopposed.
He may have irritated many, okay he did irritate many but he worked hard for the people who elected him ? his members. If only most MPs could say the same for their members i.e. constituents who pay their wages.

I met him once at a TUC rally that i was filming in trafalgar square, i got chatting with him and he came across as a decent guy and quite sociable, he certainly wasn't a suit man he was wearing a pair of jeans and what looked like an old donkey jacket..
