France and America make up...

It has been reported this week that France and America are now buddies again
following their fall-out after France refused to back George W Bush's plan to
invade Iraq in the early 2000's. George W Bush is without doubt the worst
President America has ever had. As the businessman Donald Trump said "the
people who disliked us still dislike us, now even the people who liked us hate
us". It's good the two countries have made up now, if only we had shown the
courage France did and not back that tool Bush in his desire to attack Iraq.
Think of how much money and lives it would have saved us. I admire the
French. It's good that now the USA has a serious leader rather than that wombat
who used to lead them, that their former allies can now come on board again.
Do people think the divisions Bush created can now start to be healed? France
coming back on board seems like a start.

They may have been dishonest. I'm familiar with Nixon up to a point, I always
thought LBJ was an all round good guy though. I'm not that familiar with Gerald
Ford as far as what he did or didn't do was concerned. I'm pretty sure though
that none of them did as much damage to world relations as Bush did. I can
remember seeing an interview with that fool when he was trying to become
President, he was asked questions about world leaders and he barely knew the
names of any of them. America is too much of a free-for-all when it comes to
who can rise to the top politically. Well connected rich families can get one of
theirs into the White House - even if they are a former coke-snorting, house
breaking, recovering alcoholic, insider-trading fraudster with little experience of
politics - like George W Bush. Few American leaders have been regarded as being
as much of a twat by the rest of the world as him. Few American leaders have
ever been criticised internally as much as him either. I remember seeing an
interview with one of the guys behind the TV series South Park when Bush was
President and he was talking about the anti-Bush feeling in the USA. He said
"you only have to walk about ten feet in America to find someone engaging in
Bush-bashing".

I wouldn't go as far as to say that about France. Italy maybe. There is a joke I
heard once: "what is the smallest book in the world?" Answer: "the book of
Italian war heroes".

LBJ was absolutely not a good guy. He was a worse crook than Nixon, he started his political career in Texas by voting fraud, people who crossed him in Texas ended up dead, and he dodged war service by virtue of his political position. At least Nixon served in the Navy. Oh, and there was that nasty business in Vietnam which did not do America's reputation much good at all.

Does this mean next time America is looking for someone to fight a war with them, UK won't be first in the queue like we usually are?

You are wrong about the Italians. Their submariners were truly courageous men and their feat of disabling two battleships in Alexandria harbour was extremely dangerous to them and the showed extreme courage.
The Army surrendered in droves for the simple reason the ordinary squaddie didn't want to be allied to the Krauts. Their Air Force performed well in all theatres they participated in.
So, There wasn't anything wrong with the Italians. They were poorly equipped and poorly led, but don't blame them for that.

Interesting facts there, I wasn't aware of that. I guess some of the criticisms
that usually get levelled at the Italians come from the fact they did change
sides in wars once or twice...
