Some number-crunching by the calculator-bashers over at the Backbencher this morning. They have worked out that, taking away Northern Irish seats where Labour do not stand, 90% of the top 100 constituencies that claim Jobseekers? Allowance have Labour MPs. Just 28 of the highest 200 JSA claiming seats have MPs other than Labour.
You can see all the data and the full list of constituencies here ? . Worth taking a look at the majorities as well

Bit bloody obvious. The poorest people vote tend to vote Labour.
It's like saying the richest 10% of people in Britain live in a constituency that tends to have a Conservative MP! Why would rich folks want to live in a poor area if they are loaded?

Essex Lad
Well that Alex MacDonald you quote is obviously a bright lad. So the unemployed and the poor tend not to vote for the Tories. I never knew that!!!!
So not only is he making a statement of the bleeding obvious, his interpretation is wrong i.e. "Labour won't discuss welfare" given that:
1. Labour has a compulsory jobs guarantee as part of their policy.
2. Labour supported the ?26K a year benefits cap provided it took into account local variations.
3. Labour proposed a 3 year cap on welfare spending to help control costs
I look forward to more startling revelations e.g. Why did the Tories give the financial sector a ?2 billion windfall when they sold off Royal Mail. Answer: The Tory party is largely owned by the finance sector.

But DJ only this week Mr Millibland has been pandering to the middle claarses instead of looking after the people his party was set up to represent. If Labour lose Trade Union funding they too will open their coffers to large companies.

Argie
You must have been asleep when Blair and Brown were Prime Ministers, if you think that the Labour Party during this time only looked after the "working class".
As for taking money from rich individuals and large companies, you are totally wrong yet again. They have always done that to varying extents.

Labour voters were mostly industrial workers and they have lost their jobs hence stats prehaps.
