Doreen Lawrence gets seat in House of Lords

Post by number 6 »

She is to become a Labour peer. Well done to Doreen, years of having justice denied by the thugs who dkilled her son and the police, finally she will be able to have a hand in some kind of policy. Nobody deserves it more.

Whats crazy about it Number 6 ? Well, I would agree with you 100 per cent
that Mrs Lawrence has fought tooth and nail to bring her son`s killers to
justice and deserves praise and respect.
But surely an O.B.E, M.B.E. or C.B.E might have been in order. To create
her a life peer on the grounds that a) she lost a son through murder b)
fought and took on the Establishment to see justice done seems - I am sure
to many people - the wrong grounds under which to create a peerage....
and, I might add, in the army (as an example) one would have to climb the
ladder to major-general rank or higher through dint of service, then move to
a K.C.B. (Knight Commander of the Bath) BEFORE getting a crack at a
peerage. I can think of a few exceptions; Robert Clive in the 18th century,
but he added the entire Indian sub-continent as far north as Delhi to earn
his (and fought a battle at Plassey).
Think about the scientists - Fleming who discovered penicillin got just a
knighthood, same with Barnes Wallis and his bouncing bomb or Ronald Ross
who cured malaria....
So Number 6 - it seems Mrs Lawrence to Lady Lawrence is a bloated,
unnecessary political piece of chicanery aimed squarely at influencing black
voters in the run up to the election.

Utter madness

Everything is crazy about it. On your rationale ? Stefan Kiszko's mother should have got a peerage. And what about Iris Bentley? Surely should have been Dame Iris? Diana Lamplugh should have been made a duchess...

I don't see that having your son murdered qualifies you to be a lawmaker.

Seb Coe/William Hague...

Seb Coe got a seat in the Lords for being William Hague's judo partner? Some claim he is much more than just his judo partner...
