Interesting link again. I think Labour have done a piss poor job of countering the "It's all Labour's fault" which every Tory/Lib Dem comes out with, robot-like, when interviewed on radio or TV.

One of the reasons I suspect was that the Labour leadership election after the 2010 general election seemed to last forever and there was a complete vacuum in terms of countering the Tory lies about the deficit. I still think Miliband has done a really bad job in countering this stuff which has resulted in the Labour party going along with the Tory agenda i.e. sticking with their 2015-16 spending cuts because Labour has lost these key arguments as far as public opinion is concerned.

A definition for you, Fat Mick

As I expected there is shedloads behind the term "decent standard" as to what it actually means

Section 5 of this document should be a good substitute for sleeping tablets.

David
I wasn't questioning that there would be a study somewhere you could pull the statistic from. My point is that we all must challenge such glib statistics.
It should start in the media: when some political non-entity blabs out the latest figures from some government dept/ PR office they should be taken to task.
No one does it in the commons because they know next week they will be the one spouting the shite. The Media HAVE to start making these pricks explain what they are talking about.
Best one I have heard in a long time is a BBC Scotland guy caled Gary Robertson who presents the breakfast show on Radio Scotland. His interviews with politicians are hilarious, never allows them to just repeat the same lines over and over like you see on most interviews. If they start that pish he just interrupts and forces them to answer the question asked. You can almost hear the sigh of relief when he has to end the interview to go to the weather!

One of the many reasons why I didn't vote for Ed Milliband to be Leader is because of his Unions link which is currently biting, even if Call me Dave is looking at bit of a bullying tit while he is attempting to do it.

It's one of many. Sadly I feel Ed is a berk and the leadership contest which, remember included the champaign socialist Diane Abbott, did cause a lot of harm.

I also feel the 'union avoided tax donation' will tighten the noose around Labours neck.

Having seen the party in action I also feel there is still a lot to come on things like what it knew on the NHS (Burnham also stood to potentially lead) and Policing and unless the protest vote against the Tory is as big as most now appear to be hoping more than expecting, in terms of getting elected, Labour will be fucked.

AWS, Euro selections added to other internal party stuff (Euro referendum. People's assembly etc.) and showing a divided party while trying to sell One Nation will also probably make things a lot harder.

Well a statistic is only "glib" if there is nothing behind it apart from wishy washy generalisations that don't mean anything.

You stated
"What is the definition of a decent standard? Does someone go round have a look at the house, shrug his shoulders and say, "yeah, it's alright, decent enough I suppose"

There is an extremely detailed definition for you in the message entitled A definition for you, Fat Mick.

So to my way of thinking it is not a "glib" statistic because it has a very clearly thought through and documented definition which then makes it measurable.

Ed would do himself a huge favour if he sacked the last remaining Blairites from the cabinet, Twigg,Murphy and Byrne...especially Byrne.
