WHat this thread is about Argie, just for you.

1. Nigel Farage's shtick is that he is an anti-politician, that he is outside the political establishment, that he is a breath of fresh air in British politics etc etc. What I am stating is that the opposite is the truth, Nige is as much a member of the political establishment as any other politician in terms of his family background (wealthy stockbroker), education (private), working life (n the City) MEP creaming the expenses (par for the course) etc etc. He has a typical right wing politician background. We all know that there are privately educated members of the Labour Party who also went to top universities, but they don't go on about being "anti-politicians", anti-political establishment as Farage does endlessly. When it comes to politicking, the UKIP MEPs spend as much if not more than many of the other parties in the EU parliament. Basically Nige is just another member of the political establishment who happens to lead a right wing political party. He comes out with the same shite that Cleggie did in May 2010 about how the Lib Dems were the new politics.

Personally I would like to see a lot more working class people in politics but I don't have a problem with a privately educated person going into politics. I am much more interested in their policies.

2. THe second thing this thread is about Argie is UKIP policies. UKIP is typically known for its anti-immigration and anti-EU policies. Its voters tend to be socially conservative, working class people over 50. WHat I suspect these voters don't realise is that the UKIP other policies are not what you would expect ordinary working class people to vote for e.g. they want to reform employment law so that it is no longer "bonkers" for a company to employ a woman of child bearing age, they want to take an axe to the social security system (largely used by working class people not particularly well off) in order to fund large pay cuts for the rich and they want to hammer the public sector. So that is why we have the bizarre situation in which people like you Argie who Farage would despise, are voting UKIP.

As for what Labour stand for, well here are some of the Labour government's achievements. I am sure the Tory press and bloggers would come up with 50 disasters but that is politics for you. I can't be arsed to explain every single thing to you. Use Google.

Well the UKIP spokesman I heard yesterday was talking about taking people on the minimum wage out of tax. Minimum wage on a 40 hour week basis is roughly ?12-?12, 500 a year. Given that by next year, people on ?10K will be out of tax anyway, this is not much of a giveaway.

IN fact it is virtually nothing compared to the giveaway that people on more than ?150K will get from a huge cut in tax to say a rate of 25p or say 31p (in the last election manifesto)

Being of the plebeian class the chances of me ever being able to leave these shores is zero so I'm not that upset.

Ok the expats who retired come back which would take some legal wrangling as I Imagine their human rights would be infringed and I don't think it would matter that their parent nation decided to give EU the heave ho as our friend Abu hamster the hook handed terrorist shows.

Anyway expats come back bring their cash into the ecomony also they may want need to work again and I would wager wouldn't be to keen on minimum wage.

With the reduction of stream of foreign workers undercutting wages and raising everything else due to overdemand every other cost all would be better.

I was listening to farming today on radio 4 and some fruit farmer had a very sad story how he had to use foreign temp labour who stayed for the job then went back home as no one wanted to do his job on minimum wage for 4 months living in a caravan which of course he charged rent.

The collection of Bulgarians, poles etc interviewed said loved as working there as 4 months there gave them the equivalent of a years earnings back home.

Lets be honest who wouldn't mind that.

Also the organisation that oversees the wages, working conditions of farm workers is going/has been disbanded by super Dave and co at number 10.

Back from Golf. Had a pint with our Captain, a Labour Councillor (massive house, his and hers Audis, holiday pad in Florida etc) and he was genuinely terrified at how well UKIP did. He admitted they have some valid points and Farage has to be taken seriously......Cumbria is one County where they didn't get a seat but we are one of the least ethnically diverse parts of England...
