I have to say that I was so very very pleased when I saw her doing adverts for Churchill. Luvvies like Dawn French would never stoop to that unless they were in real financial dire straights. The cheek of an hugely obese person doing chocolate adverts of all things in the past made me barf.

In the 90s I used to work for a sound studio in the film business. Fortunately we very seldom had TV people in, film people were a bit more predictable, less likely to be inadequate coke-heads and there was some real creativity going on in that business back then.

We were told that one day Dawn French and her director would be coming in to do some voice work, which meant that we all had to come in an hour earlier than usual. When she arrived, I said good morning and said that her people were already in Studio 1 and pointed it out to her. She went in and started talking about herself to her people and that's the last I heard about it. My boss told me the next day that Ms French had complained about the greeting she had received, fortunately my boss took it as the luvvie bullshit that it was and laughed it off, but Ms French was really trying to get me into trouble, over what exactly. She had stored up whatever insult she thought she had received and then made sure that she got in a complaint before she left. I formed the impression that she was a fat vindictive bitch and like her ex-husband never was funny. I mean who has heard of Dawn French outside of the UK?
