There's a soon to be released a 'crash bang wallop' of a film called 'Olympus Has Fallen' the quality of which I will leave to the critics amongst us, yes you Terry. However it is crammed with CGI shots that aren't even apparent, which is the whole point I suppose. The link below is to an article on how some of the CGI shots in the film and other well know ones were composited, layer over layer. Well worth a look if you have ever wondered 'How the fuck did they do that shot?'

Impressive stuff and nice find Andy.
Im not sure if it looks anything more than what I saw years ago when Digital Domain demonstrated in the early 90s the way effects were going with a Jeff Bridges film called Blown Away. I think its largely improved with track moves and the various plug ins that make the end product more photorealistic but I have to agree its done on such a scale now you cant even spot its CGI except you know because as the comment in the box says there are absolutley places where you are certain that no amount of red tape cutting will get you permission to film and this is where you can see akll that money is spent.
Foley and ADR must have put in over time too to help make that scene come to life. Lets not forget the lackeys in the sound department now
In fact there is a lot of CGI being deployed on TV shows now too

I was surprised how much green screen is used for relatively simple things, such as Ugly Betty walking down the street, as this Youtube shows.

CGI can replace a whole lot of things and is also a much cheaper option to building large sets
George Lucas said within 10 years every film you see on the big screen will have a lot of CGI in it. I reckon its already here and it was around the time when Revenge Of The Sith came out that he said that

Its weaving the dream - put the characters where you want them without the risks.... cartoons with real people and surroundings..... some excellent film scenes out there that just wouldnt have been possible without this film trickery.
Go back and you can see the joins and now well its more polished and undetectable as you saw. Can you imagine filiming some of these scenes with joe public in the way ? nightmare!
