The councils no longer pay rewards to people for downsizing, 430,000 people over occupy but there are only 53,000 smaller 1 & 2 bedroom places...major fuck up by some overpaid minister lol!
If a person does agree to downsize they should be exempt from the new taxes, the taxes were created to force people not to under occupy but without smaller properties its a win win situation for the government.

DJ private rented in the North is no more expensive than some Council, ALMO and RSL rents. Remember social housing is for those in the direst need.
Re: Bedroom Tax good
Either way I still agree with the policy, although the deeper problem with social housing is the nature of its allocation.

"DJ private rented in the North is no more expensive than some Council,"
Not in Blackpool nor in Manchester as far as I am aware. And in the entire south of England that isn't the case. Private rents are extortionate in the south east simply because it is the economic centre of the UK

Re: Argie
The South East is no longer the place it was, we live in Clacton, Essex & just down the road about 3 miles is Jaywick the most hard up deprived area in the UK & 3 miles the other way is Frinton with its million pound properties.
Whatever city you live in will command high prices e.g. London, Birmingham, leeds, Manchester, Glasgow so its no longer a north south thing but an all over social housing care problem being caused by the government in not building more properties.
They create ghetto's by putting large groups of people on low wage, unemployed or ethnic minorities together & then winge about problems that are caused, brain dead councils should integrate people better when planning their housing etc but that wouldn't keep people where they wanted them.

Re: Bedroom Tax good
Ridiculous post.
Do you know who the highest percentage of people are who have their council tax paid for and have spare bedrooms? Pensioners. And pensioners are immune from the bedroom tax as far as I'm aware.
It won't 'fuck up the benefit scroungers' because, as you have already guessed, the one's who don't want to pay the tax will churn out an extra kid or two, which means that in the end, it costs the taxpayer more.
I think part of the trouble is that housing estates were mostly built at a time people got married young, had a family and raised them in a traditional way. These days we get married and have our kids later and later. We need different types of housing to reflect this.
And on that note I've just thought of something for all you closet racists on here: given immigrants and British Asians have larger families than white people, this could be considered a tax on white people! Well, waddayathinkothatthen?!!!

Re: Bedroom Tax good
Did those dues take into account the number of pensioners doubling
and how we live longer than 50 or 60 years ago?
