It makes me wonder when you see tv programmes like "flog it" or other such like programmes, the times over the years you hear people say "oh i got it in a charity shop,i paid ?2 for it" then the item as it turns out of worth a small fortune.
I always wonder about this and think if I worked in a charity shop I would want to have first look at everything that came in. Some people just dont know what they have.
It would not suprise me if some charity shop workers would spot certain items and buy the item themselves then flog them for a good profit.

There was a time when charity shops were actually charity shops, you know, where the money went out on the causes it was raising money for

Nowadays its a cynical way of fleecing the money off for costs then putting a fraction towards the cause it was intended for

Has the world just become a giant cluster fuck of fuck first or be fucked?

Where is the love?

As far as I'm aware anybody that works for a charity does it entirely voluntarily, no matter what position.

Not so.

Here's some example of charity shop manager jobs that are paid employment.

If I have anything I consider saleable to donate I usually take it to our local Cancer Research shop. Maybe just luck but they have always thanked me and seem genuinely appreciative.

I've always assumed that the shop manager(s) are paid reflecting the responsibilities but other staff are volunteers.

I will never now put anything in a doorstep collection bag as the charity almost inevitable end up with next to nothing.
