'....In London, many still believe islanders are subsidized by British taxpayers, when in fact the Falkland Islands Government runs a surplus and counts on Britain for only defense and foreign affairs....'

So the F.I.s only depend on Britain for defence and foreign affairs. No subsidies for mars bars or wank mags then.
It's almost like you're making ill informed, incorrect guesses as to what the Falklands are about.

The military base, which is located about 30 odd miles away, is run in the same way as any other overseas military base. Top of their respective to do lists is supplying the troops with their own wank mags and mars bars. No need to rely on the locals.
Food and all supplies are flown or shipped in, just like they are to this country as well. Weird.

Do me a favour and read up on the Falklands before posting, because I really can't be arsed having to educate you.

Ask any squaddie and they will tell you, that when they are sent anywhere to fight, they fight for their fellow soldiers, not for queen and/or country.

When they're surrounded on all sides. In the middle of a 12 hour fire fight. They're not firing back saying 'this one's for you your majesty'

That guy looks like he's got a handful of juggling pins behind his back.

He's just itching to do a forward roll and then some flick flacks across the circus floor.

I'm thinking my sarcasm was slightly too subtle...the ?77 million is how much the defence of the Falklands costs and as the article you posted states the Falklands doesn't pay for its defence.

Thanks for that info.. its good to know that the brave soldiers are not fighting for the likes of the Royal family... after all what a waste of a life to die for Prince Edward, Anne, Andy and the rest of them!!

Cheers!

I ended up living in Switzerland due to work.... i was a midlands lad grew up going down the match, going to the local poly, seeing live groups, CND marches in the early 80's etc.

Just that due to the opportunity of being based in Geneva and having two young children gave me the chance to try something else and yes its nice... it has its moments... I would not change nationality, and I buy loads of marmite when i am back in England....

So I am someone who just had a chance and took it... how many others would have said no ??

Sorry for the delay in responding to your erroneous post, I've been out buying subsidised wank mags and mars bars.

The figure for the defence of the F.I.s in 2012, was ?61 Million.
This fin. year it is ?63 Million.

Total UK defence budget 2012, was ?39 Billion

So you're whining about roughly 0.15% of the entire defence budget.

A drop in the ocean. Especially now that oil has been discovered, with an estimated potential worth of $180 Billion.

Put your efforts into whining about the potholes in UK roads, they cost us almost 3 Billion a year.
