Re: Council Tax
I think that it's only certain councils that are seeking this reduced contribution from people on welfare. If your in a labour controlled council You should be okay. You can ask for a payment scheme to help you budget.
Re: Council Tax
Don't forget that in some cases nearly 45% of your payment is going to retired council workers who gave their yesterday for your tomorrow.

Re: Council Tax
Myth
A large proportion of council tax is spent on the Local Government Pension Scheme.
Reality
This misrepresentation deliberately ignores the fact that 75% of local authority income comes from sources other than council tax. The true figure as reflected by the Society of County Treasurers is around 5% (?65 a year for the average council taxpayer).
Myth
Local Government Pension Scheme members retire on gold-plated pensions.
Reality
Around half of Local Government Pensions are below ?3,000 a year [Audit Commission 2010]. The mean average pension is ?4,200 with the average for women only ?2,870 [CLG 2010].
All these bastards living the life of Riley on ?4(k) a year - it really gets my back-up!

Re: Council Tax
You could always try and get off incapacity benefit by applying for office work (assuming you haven't already)
You seem to be able to tap away at a computer keyboard.

Wise words CB. I work with 5 people currently getting treatment for cancer (one brave woman has had it 12 years), 2 with MS, 2 more waiting for hip replacements, one waiting a bone marrow donor and all can get themselves in to work full time.....there were some 70 jobs in our local paper last week and several offering genuinely decent salaries. If you want it work for it.
