It was a tricky one, to make the decision to do it and to decide whether that would be the right decision or not. I guess letting them get away with it would have meant a green-light to anyone wanting to try and take one of our other small colonies (we only have small colonies) dotted around the world. Another way to have dealt with it could have been to release a joint statement from us, the Americans (who were obviously with is on the whole thing), and other allies, demanding the Argentinians left.

Brilliant idea Max! What a thinker you are.

The statement could have been similar to the one released by the United Nations demanding a complete withdrawal by Argentine forces.

(See UN resolution 502 adopted on 3 April 1982).

Dr Fox says we need to cut public spending.

Well here's a chance to save a few bob.

Stop spending hundreds of millions protecting a bunch of sheep-shagging inbreeds who though they live thousands of miles away, have decided they are "British".

I really enjoyed listening to Dr Fox when he was on Capital FM, I wish they'd have him back on the radio.

The BBC said today that the Argentinians don't regard the Falkland islanders as legitimate citizens of the place as they were planted there 150 years ago. It was said on this thread that a lot of Argentina wasn't populated then anyway, so would the Argentines regard many of their own citizens as illegitimate in Argentina? I doubt it. Complete inconsistency.

A penal colony on South Georgia..

Post by max_tranmere »

I remember seeing the BNP guy Nick Griffin being interviewed by Jeremy Paxman and Griffin said they have a policy to open a penal colony on South Gerogia to house British criminals. He views our jails as no good as far as punishment is concerned so the crims will be transported to South Georgia, near the Falkland islands, and will have to work in chain-gangs, in freezing conditions, in a place resembling the ice planet in The Empire Strikes Back.

Now this is where it gets interesting: if the British territories in that region could ever vote together to determine something, and if that mad left-wing idea the EU has put up about prisoners having the right to vote was implemented, and it was not just to include Europe but each European country's colonies too, then this penal colony on South Georgia would determine everything for that area!

There would be more crims there than residents in that place, in the Falklands, and in the other islands we have in that region, combined, so the lags would be able to vote on-block and make anything happen they wanted to happen. The ones who hadn't died from the gulag, the cold, or having been whipped to death anyway. The BNP really do want to impose a hideous world on us.

lol. Everything I've said there could happen, but it would only happen in an extreme case. The BNP do want the penal colony in South Georgia, the EU Human rights lot do want the lags to get the vote. We could have an awful future ahead. To be serious though, it is obvious none of this will happen. I saw the BNP guy Nick Griffin saying this on TV, I was sure the clip must be on YouTube, and I looked around and found it. Here it is, Jeremy Paxman and Nick Griffin talk about the South Georgia penal colony (at 6 mins 6 secs) in this interview:

To quote you.. What are you smoking?

What does a map have to do with anything?

Are you intimating that the distance from the Falklands to Argentina gives the Argentinians a legitimate claim? 300+ miles..

If that's the case, the UK would have Belgium, Luxembourg, a shitload of France, a fair bit of Germany, the Netherlands, Ireland and some of Norway. And vice versa to all of those..

As mentioned on earlier threads on this topic, Hawaii is roughly 2500 miles from the U.S. mainland. Any qualms about Hawaii being part of the USA?
Alaska is far nearer Russia than any other U.S. state. Okay with that?

If distance is proof of ownership, then the Falkland islanders should lay claim to Argentina. That would really piss on Kirchner's chimichurri.
