I read the article, and I've just read the page about him on Wikipedia. It says this, amongst other things:

"Reynolds spent five years on the run before being jailed for 25 years in 1969. He was released in 1978"

How the hell can someone get 25 years but only do nine? If I owed someone ?100 but only gave them ?40 it wouldn't be 'debt cleared' would it? It seems to be like that with prison sentences though.
