I was under the impression that the "Farm" part of the title was dropped as the soap was no longer based around the original farm but the whole of the village, it's local region and an ever increasing cast of characters who had nothing to do with farming whatsoever.
In the early days it was all about getting the sheep in, milking the cows and ploughing fields... not so these days.
Anyway, a continuity announcer saying "Emmerdale Farm" instead of "Emmerdale" isn't going to significantly add to working hours so that explanation can be nothing more than a leg-pull by insiders at the expense of the gullible public
