You could well be right about HMV, Frank. I can't believe that anyone taking over the chain would keep all the shops open but I could see someone cherry picking the stores with the best profit profile.
Where else can people go in the High St. to buy CDs if the entire chain went? And there are still a lot of people out there that like to have a good browse in a High Street store and walk out with a CD in their hands to play that night.

1. I don't think of Tesco, Sainsbury and Asda as "High Street stores" which I refer to in my post.
2. Have you seen their range of music CDs? No comparison between them and a decent size HMV.

Re: Blockbuster goes under...
Lets be abundantly clear on this
BlockBusters have gone under because most people can get the films for free by downloading them
You dont hear that on the news.
All you hear is that sales of media online have gone up. I believe thats a truism but it aint accurate until you include that more people have seen it for free than paid for it if you add up all the stats from all the file sharing clients available

If I recall Blockbuster refused to stock porn so immediatley removed themselves from a very large chunk of the rental market, long before the net and downloads were the norm....
