I think we are starting to approach a critical point with the local councils - they keep putting up rent and trying to make up for the shops that are closing - this will spiral as more shops go under and the monet being collected drops. council will only increase to try and make up the shortfall leading to more shops calling it quits.

The internet will only speed this up....

The internet as killed off most things we used to know, what incentives do new shop keepers have now days to start a new business.
Our son wanted to start a market stall but within an hour of finding out rates etc it was easier & cheaper to do an EBAY site linked to facebook & Twitter.

Shops like pubs will be a distant memory to our great grand children.
