Just out of interest I wonder if the British government will look into the tax affairs of some of the so called "stars" of the games... some have moved "off shore" and others will be using image rights payments to their best advantage.
But then again its perhaps not voter friendly to target these people...
My view is good luck to them... those that cheered them onshould pay more...

Yep its tongue in cheek.... I can't understand why sports stars are treated by the public in a different way to say a large business that invests in people, pays a lot of tax, yes may be not its fair share but still creates wealth for its staff etc.
But the public love sports stars... i don't understand why say a distance runner is looked over by the public because she/he won gold ???

I will believe it when I see it, but the coalition government is apparently working on a general tax avoidance law which closes a large number of loopholes. Going offshore as part of some tax avoidance scam is not illegal at the moment.
If this law is introduced, I would expect that the taxpayers of this country would demand it is used against any individual or company, irrespective of popularity, who uses these scams to avoid paying the tax which the vast majority of us on PAYE have no choice in forking out.
In the meantime I would hope public opinion will turn on these people/companies as it has against the likes of Starbucks and hit their bottom line sales income.
