I would probably not kill the man in charge but instead try and organise an escape. That way the slaves could be free without anyone dying. You seem to be implying the slaves would be free if they killed the man, but that may just bring more attention to them and people would be after them as the man in charge is now dead. If they slipped away at night it might not be noticed for many hours, giving the slaves a head-start. Killing the man and then legging it might mean people would be after the fleeing slaves within an hour as his body might be found quite quickly. An alternative, if the slave master and his crew are always around, would be to mutiny, tie up all of them, then make a run for it. The man and his crew would be found alive just tied to trees. The slaves have got away and no one is hurt - even though the slave masters and their crews were evil people and deserved to be hurt. The slaves would have to either kill or tie up the man and all his crew - they couldn't just kill/inable the man - the whole establishment at the place would have to either be killed or held up to give the slaves a chance to get away.

Slavery was an evil thing, but many Brits got wealthy on it and it helped create a much richer society here - something we're all still economically benefitting from. Most cities of Britain that had large ports benefitted enormously as a result of slavery and the 'trans-atlantic trading triangle', Bristol being one example. If you go to Clifton in Bristol, which is really posh, that whole area was built with money from this. What I find really ironic though is that we all still benefit from it, this country became a lot wealthier as I've said and we all live a nicer life on the legacy of it all. Any one of us with forebares who ever used sugar, drank rum, or smoked tobacco, are all in a situation where we can say that our families benefitted from slavery. So in other words ALL of us have benefitted from slavery. We all condemn it, and rightly so, but we've all benefitted from it. Rather ironic, me thinks.

We as in the English & Dutch made most of Africa see slavery as a profitable business in the first place (modern history) & we planted the seeds for what's happening today.

"I think Max should get out down the pub and speak to people. he might meet a black person and think theyre ok and discover there is only really an issue if you make it one"

oej, I know people who are black, I have done my whole lifem and I don't have an issue about colour. I have an issue with other ideaologies (Islam in particular) because it has a differnt set of values and a differnt way of wanting to do things. Me and David Johnson have debated this a lot on this Forum in recent times. I started this thread because of the 'Multiculturalism' and 'Immigration' threads on the Forum, both threads started by others, and I wanted to say something positive. I like the sketch I originally linked to in the OP, where Chris Rock talks about the things Nelson Mandela and Martin Luther King wanted, and about how they are now someway to being impleemented. I have always liked Chris Rock.

Oh dear ...

Newsflash Kim: Slavery was a "profitable business" in Africa at the time of the Egyptians and for centuries before the Europeans even arrived there. On a historical scale, our period of activity in the slave trade was relatively brief (a couple of centuries or so). That's not to excuse it, but the Africans were selling each other into slavery for centuries before we arrived and for a century or more after we left. And it still exists there today in more subtle forms (child soldiers, traffiking of women etc.)

Jusat wondering what your take is on the bigger picture? Or is slavery OK when it's black-on-black?

Good one Kim. When someone disagrees with or challenges you, just shout them down as "racist". Works every time.
