Err how exactly is this allowed? Royal Opera boss should be well in touch with the man / woman in the street. No shortlist and he didn't even apply last time around. Jobs for the boys or what?

No doubt he's an old mate of Lord Pattten. They will have met at the opera don't you know. His new job pays ?450,000 a year. nice work if you can get it.

And it seems he can draw ?82k pension on top of his new salary. I am now loking for a job at the BBC, gravy train here I come!

They should have given the job to Lord Prescott, he's looking for something to do. Nothing too much, just a few hours a week, this job would be ideal.

3. Compare the DG pay and terms with those running private sector companies of a similar size.

How does that compare with the pension Fred Goodwin is drawing...?

Seriously, there is a gravy train problem with the BBC, but that sits more in the overstaffed next executive layer, not so much at the very top.

Err, yes. I met a woman in the pub who knew a fella related to a bloke who worked for the BBC and he got next to nowt for working for the BBC as did his sister's cousin twice removed..
