It recently dawned on me that most people below the age of 25 or 30 wouldn't have even heard of Jimmy Savile until recently so will be baffled by the massive coverage he's been getting of late. I myself did know who he was. Having one or two grey hairs around my temples, I was a kid in the 1970's and a teen in the 1980's, I remember Jimmy Savile very well. Most younger people would not. It just makes it even more ridiculous that he's getting this much coverage.
The things he did are bad, deserve to be covered by the media, but not to this extent. Everyone I know has said the media has overdone it in the last month, and it shows no sign of letting up. I said on another post that it serves little purpose now that the guy's dead. This latest idea of stripping him of his knighthood I see no point in - he's no longer around so what difference will it make? Now that Gary Glitter has been arrested in connection with all this, and there's also Freddie Starr being charged too, the media will be keeping this alive for weeks and months to come.
Who else thinks the press have overdone all this and are going on about it all far too much, especially when you consider that a large chunk of the population hadn't even heard of him until a month ago.

Re: Jimmy Savile... who is he?
I think the constant media battering is ITV ramming it home to constantly wind the BBC up. the BBC doing it constantly to absolve themselves of guilt levelled at them for allowing him to function as a pedophile on their premises. I cant help but feel they are not to blame here but I wonder how many people suspected but turned a blind eye for not being the one to "wrongfully accuse" such a powerful charity worker
The media in general just love a good witch hunt and given that he is now the most prolific kiddy fiddler on record and a celebrity that got away with it its just a feeding frenzy all round
I wouldnt be too surprised if it was orchestrated. I mean, a year after his death??? You couldnt even put his rotting remains on trial.
Jimmy is probably loking down at us laughing his stupid arse off sharing that dumb cigar with Satan after getting banished from heaven where the church blessed his sorry arse to go
How would they know? Pedos are in the damn church crying about the temptations of the flesh...Nooo those boys aren't dressed in flourescent bikinis and shiny red high heels strutting around in lace undies are they?

Re: Jimmy Savile... who is he?
People seem to forget that at about the time Jimmy and Glitter were up to their tricks, Bill Wyman (a member of the biggest rock group in the world) was having a well publicised relationship with a 14 year old girl.
Very different times to today.
I also think there's something about Murdoch orchestrating this war against the BBC as payback for the Leveson enquiry.

Re: Jimmy Savile... who is he?
She was 13 not 14...
Re: Jimmy Savile... who is he?
He married her when she was 16 so I'm sure he was having a relationship with her when she was 14, 15 and 16.
I think what you mean was he started the relationship when she was 13.
Yeah you are most probably correct.

Re: Jimmy Savile... who is he?
Hold on, I have just checked, he married her when she was 18.
So he most likely had a relationship with her from 13 to 18 and possibly beyond.

Re: Jimmy Savile... who is he?
They both admitted that the sexual relationship began when she was 13 and he 46 or 47, which is why Wyman fled to France for a year.
Re: Jimmy Savile... who is he?
Yep, that's right.
Re: Jimmy Savile... who is he?
I bet Gary Glitter wished he'd joined the Rolling Stones.

Or had been born as Elvis Presley or Jerry Lee Lewis...
