Newcaslte United and Wonga

Post by Arginald Valleywater »

Sorry lads but signing a sponsor deal with legal loan sharks is going to hurt you. Speaking to 3 different fans yesterday at work and none will be buying a new replica kit with that vile organisation's logo on the front. Wonga, Provi and their mates are basically thieves who pray on the less financially astute.
Bad call for The Toon...

Football is a bankrupting game for 99% of clubs. Maybe it'll put TheSopranos.com out of business?

Agree entirely Argie. They also sponsor Blackpool to their shame.

Having a company that charges 1% interest per day on payday loans as your sponsor is a humiliation of the club and its fans.

1%! If only

I just had a look at their website.

If I wanted to borrow ?100 for one day, I would have to pay back ?106.54.

Pay day loan companies, pawnbrokers and cash converters are the only growth industries in Britain today.

What a sad state of affairs.

Highly paid footballers have an attack of moral principle. About time. Good for them.

Surely the point is when they signed-up for Newcastle they weren't playing at the Wonga Stadium FFS!

A at H - 100% agree with you.

I read wonga want it reverting to St James park???

They are expensive but they seem upfront and nothing is hidden. Website is very open and the slide calculator makes it clear what you will pay. I'd rather use them than some bloke down the pub. I guess they are needed these days by poor people.

That may be true, but they prey on the desperate who might struggle to get a short term loan from the high street banks.

In addition, if people have used one of the payday loan companies, they often find that there is limited chance of them ever getting a loan from the main banks subsequently. The reason is that the main banks regard people who have used payday loan companies as very unlikely to pay loans back.

Although payday loans companies should be able to charge more because of the greater risk, there should be government legislation that limits the APR that these companies can charge. Apparently the APR Wonga charge works out to 4,214%. A tad expensive!!
