Any Bob Dylan fans out there?

I do like that version of Shelter from the Storm, but I think the upbeat melody and bass doesn't fit the lyrics. It's almost a laid-back reggae feel that conveys a bright sunny day on the beach with coconut trees in the background. Not a storm in sight! Prefer the original.

That's one of the hallmarks of Dylan's live performances for decades - changing substantially the sound of songs.

As for the lyrics Shelter from the Storm, Dylan is talking more about a pyschological storm.

I think it works and as far as you can make out the band are enjoying playing as opposed to wondering what the hell is going on which is sometimes how Dylan's backup bands look!

Regarding Shelter From The Storm, I much prefer the Live at Budokan version to the original. Indeed I also much prefer the reggae sound he gave to other classics such as Don't Think Twice, It's All Right on that album.

Must reign in my spending on music, so will download the new album another day, but I've listened to most of it and I like!

Re 'no storm in sight' remark: I was being flippant; it was just a light-hearted remark, hence the exclamation mark.

I should hope the band know what's going on - they're playing it!

I agree that it's a great version, but like I said, it's upbeat and happy melody doesn't fit as well, for me. My post was more of an observation rather than heavy criticism. I suppose it says a lot about Dylan as an artist in that he made it work. And maybe during a live event on a warm sunny day it goes down better with the crowd than the original.
