I have just issued a statement on 'Twitter' to say that "I have never slept with DB or KJ" I am hoping this will put an end to all the rumours, frankly I'm fucking tired of it.

Take off the rose-coloured glasses David.

As I said, it's relative. He had equally good (and in some cases far better) players around him at every turn, and to claim that he "won" titles on his own is ludicrous. He was just one cog in a machine. Football is a team game (even in Blackpool !wink!).

And you also seem to have forgotten about the four major international tournament finals that he was instrumental in getting England eliminated from? That's probably some kind of record in itself.

Beckham is also one of only two players to be sent off for England twice (Rooney is the other) and he is also the only England captain to be sent off.

You could also argue that the reason he won so many caps was the paucity of talent around at the time.

Katherine Jenkins is very pretty but a great singer, she ain't...

"Take off the rose-coloured glasses David."

Not wearing any.

"As I said, it's relative. He had equally good (and in some cases far better) players around him at every turn"

That may or may not be correct but it has nothing to do with what we are discussing which is Argie's comment that he had "mediocre talent".

Footballers with mediocre talent do not spend more than a decade at Man Utd and then move to the Galacticos of Real whilst coming runner up twice in the FIFA World Footballer of the Year and playing 115 times for England.

To argue that such a player is mediocre by the standards of professional footballers is nonsense...obviously.

"and to claim that he "won" titles on his own is ludicrous"

I don't claim that so I haven't a clue what you are on about, Eric.

"And you also seem to have forgotten about the four major international tournament finals that he was instrumental in getting England eliminated from? That's probably some kind of record in itself."

Well Eric to use your own logic just as "to claim that he won titles on his own is ludicrous", then clearly to argue that one player "was instrumental in getting England eliminated from four international tournament finals" is also plainly ludicrous by your own logic.

"Nice guy, limited skills, certainly no Messi, Ronaldo".

Again this has absolutely nothing to do with the topic which is NOT "Beckham is the world's best footballer" but Argie's statement that Beckham has "moderate talent"

I repeat anyone who states that a man of Beckham's record is "moderate" in terms of professional footballers is talking out of their arse. As the coaches and captains of international teams who twice voted Beckham as the runner-up in the FIFA World Footballer vote would obviously agree.

Arginald is correct, you are wrong. Compared to the likes of Ronaldo and Messi and a host of others he is -as Arginald points out "moderate" just because you don't agree doesn't change matters.

You are obviously struggling with this.

"Compared to the likes of Ronaldo and Messi and a host of others he is -as Arginald points out "moderate"

First of all, Argie does not compare him with Ronaldo and Messi. If you want to take the debate elsewhere, fine, but it has nothing to do with the thread.

Secondly, I suspect a defintion of "moderate" as in "moderate talent" appears to be required. This is after all what Argie is talking about as opposed to what you wished he had talked about in order to support your argument.

"Average in amount, intensity, quality, or degree"

Using the above as a guide to what "moderate" means then clearly in terms of not only professional footballers but also international players, Beckham with his wide range of footballing achievements at club and country level is not "moderate" in terms of quality or degree.

Not the best player in the world at his peak, but that aint what is being discussed.

But hey, since you are clearly determined to think black is white etc etc, be my guest.

You don't seem to understand the difference between "on his own" and "instrumental" David.

You also appear to be implying that I'm saying that Beckham is crap. I'm not. I just don't think he's the "footballing genius" that he's often made out to be. Good yes - but still medicore compared with some of his peers. Overhype certainly.
