It's strange how the The Sun tried to make out they weren't revealing anything we hadn't seen before. They have put on their front page today that 'these are the pictures we have already seen on the internet'. I only know this because I saw the press preview thing on the late night news last night. Well, I've NOT seen them, have no interest in doing so, and will NOT be looking them up the internet. If we've "already seen them" why are The Sun printing them? Aren't newspapers supposed to inform us of things we don't already know or have seen?

Exactly right welkram. And if you look at that "firing at insurgents" footage, right at the start you very briefly see someone (probably one of his Gurkha bodyguards) finishing cocking the .50 cal for him and quickly disappearing out of camera sight to make it look as if Hewitt is fighting off a Taliban attack single-handed.

There's also footage of Hewitt supposedly "on foot patrol" in an Afghan village that's noticeably devoid of all human life. Quite obviously it had been cleared of every living soul beforehand, and I wonder how many sweeps of the place the real squaddies had to do before the photo op, just to make sure it was completely safe for Hewitt to go into (no IEDs, snipers etc.)?

The so-called "press leak" that saw him pulled out after 10 weeks was also fucking convenient as well.

Complete and utter bollocks of the first order to make Hewitt (and by reflection the rest of the royals) look good. Yet its amazing how many gullible idiots swallow it all without question.

I remember when his uncle Randy Andy was flying choppers in the Falkland?s war.

I recall his job (according to the PR machine) was to fly about in his chopper and ?act as a decoy target for Exocet missiles?.

The idea being that instead of these missiles blowing up one of our ships they would destroy Andy and his helicopter.

Now I?m sure his commanding officer is going to think, ?I have the Queen?s second son under my command. I know what I?m going to do. I?m going to put him in danger by asking him to dodge Exocets?

spider, my cousin was a Navy officer and served with Air Miles Andy for a time, including during the Falklands War (and said he was a nasty, arrogant cunt by the way, almost universally hated by officers and ratings alike). He also confirmed that all that "Exocet decoy" stuff that continues to be perpetuated in the media to this day about Andrew in the Falklands was and remains 100% PR bullshit.

According to my cousin (and as you sagely deduce), Andrew was more trouble than he was worth to have down there, because they had to keep him as far away from danger as was possible.

The result was that he was little more than a glorified postman, ferrying people back & forth from one ship to another miles away from the actual fighting. Keeping him safe was a nightmare, but the powers-that-be couldn't afford to let anything happen to him or it would have been a major propaganda coup for the Argies.

Basically whenever the royals (or their PR machine) claim that they're treated "just like anyone else" in the forces, you know it's bullshit.
