Wise up mate.I own a fast car and a faster motor bike. When you have a pair of knackers and the testosterone kicks in you go for it. If you want to spend your life wrapped in cotton wool that's your choice.
Do you how how many times I've almost been knocked off my bike by people driving Fiat Farts and the like? People driving safe sensible cars but with no road sense and less vision. I like my adrenalin rush.A bit callous maybe but life's a bitch.
My young nephew was run down and killed by a bus doing probably 30 mph.
Very fast cars and bikes and their killer owners

Wholly concur, William.
Speed doesn't kill. Being brought to a halt, rather against one's will, has the ability to do so, however.

Exactly. It's like falling from a height. The fall doesn't kill. It's the sudden stop when you hit the ground that does the damage.

A professional driver for a company that shall remain nameless, eh?
So you're a bus driver that works for First Group. Lol.
And by the way, even professional road/drag/rally/F1 drivers crash, despite their skills and experience with speed. And they rarely have to deal with pedestrians unexpectedly running across their path. The death rate amongst professional racers has only gone down over the years due to better built vehicles.
I think we can safely say that it's not just speed, or bad drivers alone that kill. It is them mixed together where we have problems. And we all have individual limits on reflexes, dealing with adrenalin, how we judge situations or how prone we are to losing concentration, and speed affects all of the above. I bet EVERY speeding driver that ever crashed and killed someone thought they were in complete control just before ploughing into some poor fucker's legs at 80mph. A bit like how dog owners say their dog 'has never been like that before' right after it's ripped a toddlers face off.
So while I agree with you that it mostly comes down to human error, that error-rate increases when the speed does. They're linked and that's probably why most countries have laws on speeding.
Finally, for all you boy racers that think you're the bee's knees behind the wheel. Even if you were the best driver the world had ever seen, you're sharing the roads with drivers who're not up to your Mansellesque standards. They can panic and cause accidents because of your speeding. Your speed doesn't just affect how you drive. Remember that.

Re: Very fast cars and bikes and their killer owners
Google have been testing self-driving cars since 2005 and the last few years have really put the mileage in around northern California and recently, Nevada. They're applying for licences in other states. They've done hundreds of thousands of miles amongst country roads and urban sprawl with not a single accident caused by the computer. They've had one crash when the human driver took control and another where another driver rear-ended the computer controlled car at some traffic lights.
It's the way forward.
Despite all this, one thing we Brits can claim to have and that's some of the safest roads in the world.

You really are an obnoxious patronising twatt Slater. Reading Williams description does not conjur up a bus driver for First Group. Don't judge everyone by your own low standards.

Ah, fuck off.
If I'd come up with the 'professional driver' assertion and Lizard had called me a bus driver lots hilarity and back slapping would have ensued over at the Rock for the witticism. It's just cos I is Sam, innit?
You're one of the most ill-tempered, foul-mouthed, nastiest wankers who frequent these forums and you call me obnoxious! I suppose living your whole life in the closet must have something to do with your anti-social personality.
You don't fool me one bit you fruitcake.

"Fast cars don't kill anyone. Bad drivers kill."]
The combination of fast car and bad driver is more likely to kill. That is the point. Bad drivers on tricycles are much less likelier to kill, wouldn't you think?

'Keep up you lot it's the double standards that I am bleating on about. You either want to reduce death on the roads or not.If the government wants to then ban fast cars and bikes...simple and it would work.I don't doubt some drivers are better than others but there are a lot of bad ones out there and many have fast cars...btw...driving fast in a straight line in good visibility with nothing else around is easy...any wanker with a little dick can do it.
