Tia Sharp is reported missing after she fails to appear for her dinner. Police arrive at house to "assess the situation and examine the property". Police say this visit "was not regarded or viewed as a full search of the property".
Neither you, me, nor the "experts" know if the body was in the house then.
Wednesday, 8 August
Sniffer dogs trained to detect blood and evidence of body decomposition are sent into Christine Sharp's house. Mr Hazell is led away from the house by detectives who later confirm he is being interviewed as a witness. It was here that "human errors" were made according to the police. What errors?
Neither you, me, nor the "experts" know exactly what errors were made.
Huge searches in the surrounding area were going from the 3rd to later in the week.

So one search that was messed up, but a body found and an arrest and charge made within a week.

No but since the family are always the prime suspects in these cases and the grandmother's boyfriend a) was the last person to see Tia alive and b) has convictions for possession of a machete and selling crack cocaine it would seem rather odd that the police let him go walkies. And since we are talking a normal council house not a mansion it can't have taken that long to a) search it and b) notice that you can access the neighbour's lofts from your own. After all, that's how Les Battersby stole his neighbour's electricity.

I guess it is very easy for us all to be wise after the event. Initially she was a missing girl which must happen tens of thousands of times. So I guess the first thing is to check out all her mates and relations and do a search to check that she isn't hiding out somewhere. Together with wading through hundreds of hours of CCTV footage to put her movements together etc etc..
Then the next thing is to look into the possibility of abduction.
Like I said - one messed up search.
As for Hazell, he was wandering round into shops saying I am Tia's stepdad and I am looking for her. Hence the phone call to the police. Hardly a master criminal on the run.

You need to be more careful about chronology. Jim's opening post on this thread was at teatime on the 11th of August. This was the day after Tia Sharpe's body had been found and Hazell arrested.
I would be quite good at pointing the finger at the family with that timing. Indeed I would be excellent at choosing who would be arrested for any murder in those circumstances.

It was done on the evening of Friday 3rd when the report had just come through and as far as the police were concerned it was still a missing girl case.
