The great voice of darts passed away today at the age of 72 after a fight with Bowel Cancer.
I know a lot of people don't have time for Darts. And trying to tell a non darts fan what it is that makes darts great is usually a thankless task and a lot of people like using the phrase 'it's not even a sport'.
But Sid was a fantastic broadcaster who was unique and gave so much to the sport. Also he showed something in his chosen craft that few other broadcasters show - Enthusiasm.
He will be sadly missed. R.I.P. Sid Waddell 'The Voice of Darts'.

Totally agree. The voice of his sport, intelligent, funny and a man of many talents. RIP Sid.

A Cambridge degree in history and the deliverer of some classic lines:
?When Alexander of Macedonia was 33, he cried salt tears because there were no more worlds to conquer..... Bristow's only 27.?
?If we'd had Phil Taylor at Hastings against the Normans, they'd have gone home.?
?Steve Beaton, he's not Adonis, he's THE donis?
?Steve Beaton - The adonis of darts, what poise, what elegance - a true roman gladiator with plenty of hair wax.?
?There's only one word for that - magic darts!?
