So the Tories are supposed to be the "Friends of the rich?", well they seem to be doing more to kick their arses than New Labour ever did in the whole 13 years of their reign!

And good for them for doing it Jim, though to be fair there wasn't the lynch-mob mentality that pervades in these austere times back then.

Naming them will be easy. Getting the bastards to pay up will be whole different matter......
I am looking forward to seeing how many of the so called great and good are actually butt fucking the revenue and us, the paye tied public....a few honours may be getting returned or annulled....
And another..if all this tax is repaid I am looking forward to massive prosperity and a fucking big tax cut next year. Plus we can re-arm, save the NHS, cancel student fees, free prescriptions, build more homes and nurse more LSD!

I do agree with you, we didn't know just how corrupt and greedy they were. But being a fan of old Labour, ie Harold Wilson's and before, I am sure they would have noticed that the rich were taking the piss and slapped them with every tax imaginable!
Ministers in New labour must have known what was happening but were simply too terrified to take them on and for that they should walk around in sackcloth and ashes, flog off all their second and third homes and pay alms to the poor for say the next 10 years!!!
A New Labour MP serving penance for betraying the poor, although the roller skate in a bit of a cop-out!!

Re: Tax avoiders to be named and shamed!
Corporate tax avoidance is done across the board so I can see left, middle ground and right wing millionaires all quaking. The Sainsbury family have at least 14 charitable trusts all focusing on important social issues like ballet and sculpture...save tax and do sweet fa for the common good yet worshipped like dogs at the court of Nu Labor....titles aplenty. Most so called do gooders have an ego and an agenda. As someone who has tried to get charitable funding for some pretty mainstream projects like housing, youth clubs and the environment I have found the charities sticking up barrier after barrier and actually protecting their pots of cash instead of dishing it out....
Friend of mine is a tax expert for Price Waterhouse and he won't look at anyone less than a multi millionaire....not enough commission in helping the common tax payer.

One of your more perceptive posts.
Hurray for the Tories, the party that soaks the rich and helps the poor.
A party almost entirely funded by the financial sector is by far the best bet for cracking down on the excesses of the err, financial sector.
And now that they have got rid of so many HMRC inspectors it will be so much easier to carry out a crackdown because those that remain will be so, so much more efficient!
It's just fine and dandy!!
Cracking down on immigration; immigration stays the same.
Sorting out the economy; the economy bombs.
Hammering the public sector to free the private sector to grow; the economy bombs.
Rolling back the New Labour authoritarian state; ID cards are scrapped.
Getting the debt under control; austerity which was supposed to finish by 2015 with the debt sorted will now last til 2020 at least acccording to Cameron.
And now,
Wholesale tax avoidance; I leave you to fill in the sequence, Slippo

Re: Tax avoiders to be named and shamed!
I haven't read the article in full , but does it not mean that the people running such schemes will have to disclose the persons partaking in the schemes to the hmrc and not "naming and shaming" as in a public context ?
I find it staggering that the current practise is "tell us if you want to" , that in itself is just short of the "we have a pot of money at the beginning of the fiscal year to close these types of loopholes , but our legal fees etc are such that the money's gone by June" so for 3 months they can do something about it , the other 9 they can't .
And what the hell is "uncollectable tax" ??? how can ?7b be uncollectable ? does that mean they can't be arsed to track them down ?
Cheers J .

Re: Jimslippo
In view of the fact that super rich fat cats like Bob Diamond and Rupert
Murdoch, men of high moral stance when it comes to making a tenner,
have been cronies and mates of the Tories, when we have a colossal
Libor Rate banking scandal - and an even bigger one on the horizon with
HSBC about to be fined a billion dollars for laundering Latin American
drug money - then it is in the Brit Govts own P.R. interest to bleat about
going after those who fail to pay tax......its all a smoke screen to take the
heat off the corrupt mess that is British big business under the Tories, a
mess partly created under the cynical, greedy years of Thatcher.
This awful Govt has, in my opinion, no moral integrity whatsoever ! (Sadly
the Opposition are just as bad).
