You're in pub and get talking to some guy. You notice that he has really bright blue sparkly eyes, but the biggest nose you've ever seen. Anyway, he starts harping on about how the Gurkhas are all rats that shouldn't be allowed in our country and smelly fuckers. Your position is that they put their lives on the line for our country and we should at least put them ahead of other migrants that haven't fought for our country.
After a while you both get heated and angry. You get fed up with his bollocks and insult him.
Are you more likely to, a) call him a blue sparkly-eyed cunt, or b) a big-nosed cunt?
A similar scenario with an old friend from school. You've been in the showers with him and remember he has a massive cock. He's also got a hunchback. You get arguing, angry and want to insult him.
Are you more likely to, a) call him a big-cocked motherfucker, or b) a hunchbacked motherfucker?
Let's finish with one more. This time it's about character rather than any physical characteristics: You're arguing politics with a long-standing friend. You both get angry and he calls you a 'thick cunt'. This guy, you know, is involved with some charities for unprivileged kids and abhors cruelty to animals. You also know he's always got bad breath.
Are you more likely to, a) call him a kind-hearted bastard, or b) smelly-breathed bastard?
If you think, as I do, that you and most of us would pick 'b' from all the above then we have to ask ourselves why. It's obvious why, of course. We are picking up on something we find 'wrong' or 'bad' about them to add weight to the insult cunt/bastard/motherfucker. You're not just a bastard but a FAT bastard (worse). Given our little experiment, if Terry did indeed call Anton Ferdinand a 'black cunt' I think it's almost unquestionable that he thinks being black is somehow inferior to, or worse than being white. "You're not only a cunt, Anton, but a BLACK cunt!"
When we're angry and insulting people we don't sit back and rely on our powerful powers of observance, just to be descriptive. We're picking up on the first thing we don't like about them and telling them about it! For Terry (if true) it would have been about Anton's skin colour.

Why is Anton Ferdinand's character brought into question? He's not on trial.
It might be understandable if Anton had been the one that brought this to the police, or had said he heard Terry call him a 'fucking black cunt' but he didn't. Anton admitted he never heard Terry call him anything racist and never brought this to the police.
