Reading, 'riting and 'rithmetic - for David J
Re: Essex Lad
Yes absolutely - so what we can agree on is that governments don't tell the truth.

Re: Essex Lad
I think in many cases, the situation is more complex i.e. governments select a positive figure from a set of figures and don't mention any figures not supporting their general line.
The result is they may be telling the truth but not giving an overall picture.
A bit like you ignoring the umpteen, kind, generous comments about Eric Sykes in the Guardian and instead picking on one, negative remark!!

Or your inability to use the English language correctly - there should be no comma after umpteen. And on several posts of yours - it's 1930s or 1970s NOT 1930's or 1970's.

Re: Essex Lad
Thank you for a post that is a victory of irrelevance over content.
Err, do you not think you are becoming a tad obsessed with me? There seems to be a number of telltale signs.
We have a number of your posts that give me a name check for no particular reason.
Now you have such difficulties in countering me, you are reduced to punctuation remarks or alternatively repeating yourself ad nauseam about the difference between Any Questions and Question Time. Thrilling stuff, but very weird!
Well, if it keeps you happy though, who am I to suggest you act otherwise?
PS Re. the punctuation, it?s the interweb, not the Daily Grovel, you know?

Just to help out
Given punctuation appears to be your thang, here's some appalling punctuation and grammar for you.
Enjoy!

Or this one,
http://bgafd.co.uk/forum/read.php?f=3&i ... ply_257976
And then when you have finished that, have a go at punctuating this:
""...I was a Flower of the mountain yes when I put the rose in my hair like the Andalusian girls used or shall I wear a red yes and how he kissed me under the Moorish wall and I thought well as well him as another and then I asked him with my eyes to ask again yes and then he asked me would I yes to say yes my mountain flower and first I put my arms around him yes and drew him down to me so he could feel my breasts all perfume yes and his heart was going like mad and yes I said yes I will Yes. "
Saucy stuff!
Let me know how you get on or better still, don't!
Enjoy!

Essex Lad
Well, if you can't see the mistakes yourself, I am certainly not going to help you out.
I know where this kind of thing can lead. Before I know where I am, I'll be drawn into a web of late night parties with chocolate hobnobs and readings from Fowler's the King's English.
You don't catch me out quite so easily, Essex Lad.
Besides, Lizard gets very angry when people bang on about grammar and punctuation.

Re: Essex Lad
Funny that David, you recently moaned that a recent post of mine was "poorly phrased" ----- no mention of "it's the interweb" then.
It's just as I suspected --- you're an arrogant, pompous hypocrite.
I'll now do a Johnson and say that's the last I'll say on the subject.

The post you refer to has nothing to do with punctuation and grammar. It was about you asking me to compare two completely different things. To remind yourself, read the context here.
http://bgafd.co.uk/forum/read.php?f=3&i ... ply_257556
THe point that I was making then was that you were comparing apples with pears i.e. comparing playing with an Xbox with working for nothing.
But hey, if this gives you the opportunity to insult me and feel better for it, go ahead. Just don't kid yourself that you are making a valid point.
