return to the trees

Post by frankthring »

Amid all the usual brouhaha about crime, greedy bankers, the Olympics
and the weather I was pleased to see that the Govt, in a turnaround, has
agreed not to sell off any more forest land and, in fact, following a new
Report, will increase British forests by 15%.
Its nice to think we have a place for a stroll under the trees, watch the birds
and butterflies and bunnies.....and have a little solitude....
Now if only we can get rid of the bloody motor car and kill off the internet
Life might return to a more balanced pace again.

Frank stormed:

"Now if only we can get rid of the bloody motor car and kill off the internet
Life might return to a more balanced pace again."

You remind me of "The Major" in Faulty Towers, Frank! I have already told you there is nothing to fear from the "Iron Horse" and no, my "magic talking tablet of shining stone," is an IPad and it will not, "Steal your soul!"!wink!

Not a bad sentiment, Frank. And a good u-turn on their part.

Excellent news

This is a great example of people power. The Tories under Caroline Spelmann had plans to flog off huge amounts of state land about 18 months ago.

ABout half a million people signed a petition trashing the policy which ended up with the Tories doing one of their early u-turns. The resulting independent report commissioned by the government says England's publicly owned forest estate is a national asset and should not be sold off.

Thankfully, the report has been accepted by the government.

Good news indeed, Frank.

It's about time politicians of all parties listened instead of saying " I was elected, I know best, now let's bomb the fuck out of somewhere "

I don't know. Sometimes the 'people' aren't the best judge of what should and shouldn't happen because most people are, quite frankly, stupid.

Mr Slater

There is a difference between politicians "listening" and then making a different decision and "listening" including maybe having a referendum on everything.

The problem is working out if any "listening" has actually gone on.
