Not just Barclays. This is a comprehensive and systematic confidence trick on both the retail and institutional investor globally by the entire global banking community. They all knew what was going on. They must have???? They all turned a blind eye because they all had their filthy snouts in the trough.
This all started with Thatcher deregulating the banks and succesive governments sucking up to bankers. They should be prosecuted for fraud. I don't trust my money with any bank or pension provider anymore.

Agree entirely. If I had defrauded the bank when applying for a mortgage I would be looking at a stretch inside. If as a bank director I defraud the customer by manipulating bank lending rates .........

Re: Porn Baron
As my BTL mortgage rate is linked to libor I would like to know if I have a claim for compensation against the Woolwich which is part of Barclays. I may write to the ombudsman.

Good for you.
It is only when individuals act to defend themselves like you and preferably also get involved in pressure groups that we have any chance of forcing these bastards to change their ways.

The payment protection claims are a mere drop in the ocean compared to the business mis selling thats about to erupt - Think that the banks are not the place to be just now.

The deregulation of the business was what did it - and we are going to be left mopping this up for a long time. who knows what else is going to develop.
Look back a few years and the profits the banks were making - you have to ask how did they make such profit without actually making something ?

Re: Barclays bank traders.....
I'm a bit of a history anorak in my spare time, and this morning I was reading about King Henry I (son of William the Conqueror) who ruled England for the first 3 decades or so of the 12th Century.
Anyway, besides being one for the ladies (he fathered 3 legitimate children with his missus Queen Matilda, plus about 20 others with various mistresses), old Henry took no shit from the "moneyers" (who were roughly the medieval equivalent of today's bankers). And so when he got wind that they were taking diabolical liberties by forging coins of the realm for their own private gain, the cunning old bastard invited them all to attend a pre-Christmas piss-up at Winchester.
As you'd expect, there was much merriment: there were court musicians, troubadors, jesters, fair maidens, busty harlots, roast pigs with apples stuffed in their gobs - all that "medieval" stuff. But once he'd got 'em a bit trolleyed on the old mead, Henry had his men drag the moneyers off down into the dungeons to each have their right hand and one testicle (some sources say both testicles) cut off by way of punishment.
Now this got me thinking - wouldn't it be great if we weren't so fucking "civilised" these days? That way, Betty Windsor could do the same thing with today's fat-cat bankers like Bob Diamond, Stephen Hester, Fred Goodwin and all the rest of those duplicitous, self-serving, snouts-in-the-trough fuckers who have for many years been handsomely feathering their own nests at the expense of all of us - not to mention the broader economy and society as a whole.
I can see it now: Queen Bess sending out gilded invitations for the City boys to attend a grand old knees-up at Buck House, whereupon they're immediately carted off down into the catacombs by gangs of burly Beefeaters and Coldstream Guardsmen to have their "gentleman's mechanicals" unceremoniously removed - with broken Bollinger bottles being employed as the tool of choice to do the job (talk about poetic justice!).
Sounds like a plan to me!

Best idea I've heard of in years young Eric. Go fer it Liz. The Yeoman Warders and Queens Bodyguard would have the bastards away in a flash.
Dunno why you suggest the Coalies though.

This has been the motto of the London Stock Exchange simce 1801. I wonder what the motto of the banking fraternity is?.........."Next year we'll be millionaires, Rodney!"
