If this was a Daily Mail article about radical Muslim asylum seekers claiming benefits, no doubt you'd be spitting feathers Andy.

Because it's every bit as sensationalist as any of the DM headlines you were ripping the piss out of the other day while telling us how you prefer to read a "proper paper" (i.e. The Guardian). In fact it's whole tone and journalistic style positively screams "Daily Mail" at you (as indeed do most of the comments from the idiots replying at the bottom below the article. Very "Mail reader" in tone they are.)

In other words, it's a headline-grabbing half-truth of the .... oh I dunno .... "Illegal immigrant ate my dog" variety designed to get people's hackles up, except with the opposite political slant (which makes it OK in your book, since it happens to suit your own political bias).

But perhaps this bloke isn't as hard done-by as he wants us to believe? Perhaps there's more to this than is apparent from this story? This from the CAB web site:

"If you have a medical condition, you may be able to restrict yourself to particular types of jobs or jobs where you only have to work certain hours. You will have to provide medical evidence to allow you to restrict your availability for work like this. However, if your medical condition or a disability means it would be very difficult for you to find suitable work, you may not be able to get Jobseeker's Allowance and have to claim other benefits instead." (my bold)



Can faceless public sector bureaucrats in the DWP (or wherever) be insensitive jobsworth morons? Of course they can. Irrespective of what shade of government happens to be in power. And maybe that is what's going on here.

But we don't really know the fully story do we? Perhaps for whatever reason (like he hasn't bothered to tell them) the authorities simply aren't fully aware of all his medical issues? (I don't know ? I'm just saying that might be the case).

First of all, welcome to the Brains Trust!!

Having 4 kidney transplants rejected seems to me to be pure attention seeking.

As far as I know the kidney transplants were rejected because Paul said:

1, I can't see the face of Jesus Christ in this one.
2. How can I take this one, it doesn't match the colour of my Dundee football shirt etc etc.
3. The third one, Paul took out himself because Kaylie Marie, his daughter hadn't had time to go to Tesco's and he felt a bit peckish.

This article you link to strikes me as a complete bunch of lies and half truths. I have no evidence to support that, but I thought I would just guess.

I do think it's important that people like your good self and pinko Guardian fellow travellers, think outside the box, now and again.

For example, I thought Paul would be an excellent candidate for doing a portering job supplying the Intensive Care and Renal Units of a large city hospital. Great idea or what? If he starts feeling a tad under the weather, he is in exactly the right place!!


Atos have been providing tests for disability on behalf of the DWP for a number of years now. Personally I have no problem with the principle. It's just that the implementation appears to be a bag of shite.

For example, The DWP said that a quarter of people who have received work capability assessments to date have had appeals heard against rulings by Atos assessors. Of this quarter, 38% have had their fitness to work judgements overturned. This percentage is higher when advocacy groups have been involved. ANd the tribunal process is so overloaded that it takes 6 months to get a review.

So given this test based on the DWP's own figures doesn't seem fit for purpose, you have to ask why this has been ongoing.

Presumably the purpose is not to have a fair and proper assessment but to terrify the shit out of the people on disability benefits in the hope that they will just give up before the assessment happens.
