I don't find them annoying, only extreme religion in any form annoy's me, why only this weekend I found myself having a cup of tea and a piece of cake in a church coffee bar whils't waiting for someone, I must say everyone working there seemed very pleasant, the two young women who served me were extremely fit and looked as though they might take it up the arse as well, naturally I got my cock out, slapped it on the counter, and wished them both a happy Easter, one fainted, the other had a stroke. The chocolate cake was marvellous.

Agreed. But I thought it worth mentioning the probable reasons behind these acts given you signed off with 'Clue: It wasn't the Atheists'. It gave the impression of an implication that Atheists are somehow less caring, or charitable.
It's worth remembering that although the Church started many schools in England, it wasn't that far further back they actively discouraged the poor from learning to read. It gave the flock access to verses in the Bible and to create their own interpretations. It's also the major reason why making, printing, or owning a Bible in English rather than Latin carried the death penalty, or imprisonment. The Church lost control, which is probably the reason why they actively sought young children and orphans to 'educate' because they knew the old saying 'Give me the child until he is seven and I?ll give you the man' holds real truth.
Please remember that Hezbollah and other terrorist organisations help get young kids off drugs. Of course we know their real motive for doing this.

It's actually only Jesuits who claim that. And yes, I went to a Jesuit school...

Re: Why are Christians SO annoying?
I think at my school the monks changed the saying , "Give me a child until he's seven and I will give you the man" to "Give me a child until he's seven and you better dig a hole 6ft deep in your garden to put him in, when I give him back!"!wink!

Re: Why are Christians SO annoying?
I think because Christianity and Church attendance is on the decline, the people running the Church have to kind of come over as cool and down with the kids (man) in order to try and get more people interested. I remember a Christian outfit not far from where I live who went around cleaning walls of grafitti and so on. I read one of their posters once and it said "come and join us, let's meet for a get-to-know-you curry". You see, trying to sound cool...

But it would have been if the church hadn't done it or existed. Plus back then you were probably outcast for 'having a different opinion' about religion.

Jimslip, you're upset because they're happy? Live and let live my friend....
And Sam Slater, atheists don't go around trying to control what people think do they? Yeah right, you can't turn on the television these days without some smug bastard giving us the gospel according to Charles Darwin! Gimme a break....

You mean in general? No. I mean, some may do but I think it's more about telling people 'how' to think, not 'what' to think.
you can't turn on the television these days without some smug bastard giving us the gospel according to Charles Darwin!
Maybe you're just one of the majority that Atheists talk about being part of the problem: that too many of us are indoctrinated into thinking religion isn't something that should be criticised. That religion has managed to place itself in a position where it is given special treatment and levels of respect. When someone doesn't conform (say, Dawkins) it seems more shocking and strident because of your underlying attitude and expectations. If Dawkins talked about the Labour or Tory party in such a tone you wouldn't bat an eyelid. Because it's religion he's a 'smug bastard'.
You see an Atheist on every channel these days because you notice it much more due to your sensitivities and possible prejudices. You're like a racist who sees 5 or 6 black/asian people on a High Street where it's 90% white and you remark how immigrants are 'everywhere'.
I was listening to a Vicar on TV last year who was complaining about the number of Atheist/Secular/Humanist books were being published and whether Atheists had the publishing houses and media in their pockets (really). All nonsense when you consider the amount of religious books published weekly.
I've just done a little check on Amazon for you. I entered a few keywords to see how many results I got:
5,165: Atheism
2,045: Secularism
9,339: Humanism
Now the religions....
403,882: Christianity
64,968: Islam
53,514: Judaism
43,538: Buddhism
20,000: Hinduism
2,054: Sikhism
And this is amazon.co.uk, which serves one of the least religious nations in the world. I imagine the weight of numbers towards religious publications would be even greater in places like America, Ireland, Poland, Italy, Portugal, Spain, Turkey etc. And then there's the middle east and Latin America to consider.
Since you mentioned Darwinism, I thought I'd give that a check compared a minor American religion, Mormonism.
Now, let's remember this is amazon.co.uk, which serves the nation of Darwin - one of the most celebrated scientists of the last 500 years. We are comparing him with a crackpot, foreign Christian sect that was founded by a known fraud who preached that Jesus came to America after his crucifixion and that American Indians are related to the lost tribes of Israel. An easy win for Darwinism then?:
2,302: Darwinism
4,867: Mormonism
Oh dear. More than double the amount of books written about a mad cult than one of the most sound scientific theories of all time.
You see, Mr. Shabby, how completely and utterly wrong you are. Of course, I'm just a smug cunt for pointing it all out. Right?
All I have to decide now is if being smug is better than being thick. Hmmmm....
