Mark Zuckerberg, the billionaire behind Facebook, was recently criticised by a New York businessman for appearing too casual at formal occasions. To show up in a hoodie and stone-washed demins, or a t-shirt and some lounging pants - when everyone else is in suits - is not right, this guy said. I personally agree. I've seen pictures of him occasionally in a suite, like when he met Barack Obama and at his recent wedding, but it is rare. Here is Zuckerberg dressed like he normally is when most people would be in suit and tie:
What do people think, is the suit on it's way out now that the cool people are taking over? Should the suit be preserved and always worn in formal settings?
Mark Zuckerberg : where's the suit?

Personally, I like it when people make the effort in wearing a nicely cut suit. I take notice when someone takes the time to pick a pocket square that compliments their whole attire rather than picking one that matches their tie exactly. That is just as lazy as wearing a hoodie in my opinion because you know they've bought the lot as a set due to a lack of fashion sense. But I'm digressing......
With the meetings I think you're referring to, he was meeting a whole lot of 'suits' who were grovelling for his attention and hoping for a little bit of his pie. He wasn't obliged to impress anybody and I think if he'd given them what they were hoping for no one would've given a monkey's what he was wearing. He could have turned up as Ziggy Stardust and they'd have still kissed his arse. I think a lot of it is sour grapes.

Zuckerberg 'cool'? Not in a month of dodgy IPOs.
Re: Mark Zuckerberg : where's the suit?
Zuckerberg is at the top of his game - he had hoodwinked the masses and made millions off of a bunch of code that still needs to be proved as a revenue generator.....
He doesnt need to worry though as he has made the money and can now slope away and do what ever when ever to who ever.....nice life if you ask me. so did he need to wear a suit
nope
he doesnt need to conform or fit in to the mould - he did what all those other suits are trying so hard to do he lead the pack and won the game.

The fact he wore a suit for Barack Obama is a sign that he can be respectful. The lack of it means he doesnt need to impress anyone. It's so keeping it real and unpretentious.
I can see sticklers for tradition thinking him a bit rude but lets face it, there was a time when covering your body in tattoos and piercings was considered trashy. These days its considered cool
In fact he could put his sneakers up on the coffee table and chuck back a bucket of KFC chicken and still be respected because the money in his bank account demands respect from those who are shallow enough to deem him important because of it.
When it comes to money so many people place more importance on you.
I quite like the fact he is a hoodie in a sea of suits. It clearly states what he is about.

Also it clearly states he doesnt place huge emphasis on his wealth.
I like that. Makes him more down to earth and accessible

Interesting comments there. I agree that the people around him at these events are there to see how much what he does can benefit them so they probably don't care very much. Maybe it's a sign of how things are changing, there are 'dress down' days at many offices on Friday's now - where you turn up in your civvies - and maybe that will extend to other days too.
Mark Zuckerberg kind of comes across as the 'all American kid' (in spite of being 28) in the way he dresses. Do you remember how everyone viewed Michael J Fox as that after Back To The Future? Jeans, lumberjack shirt, sleeveless bodywarmer, and white pumps. He was seen as embodying the all-American youngster of that era. Zuckerberg dresses in that sort of archetypal American way too - the American of the 2010's. I wouldn't be surprised if his image of hoodie and jeans has already started a fashion trend.

Scruffy git but still managed to fool most of the world's top investors into buying into a company that has peaked.....
