As I have got older, mid 40's, I have become more and more interested in the German invasion of Russia. The amount of books on the subject I now have is frightening!!!
The more i read/learn, the more I think THAT WAS WAR and nothing else has come close since. It was not two humans fighting each other, more like two raging animals... no mercy given... none expected
The suffering on both sides, especially the German soldier being completely "hung out" by Hitler, the 1000's of kilometers from home, the unbelievable snow and cold... etc.
I do wonder how our "brave boys" today would have coped in that situation?

Here is another one if not already in your library:
Through Hell For Hitler by Henry Metalmann, a superb first-hand account of fighting on the eastern front. Including what is was like being steamrollered over by Zhukov's encirclement of German 6th army at Stalingrad.

Have you been watching "soviet Storm" on Military History channel?
We have need of you again, great king.
Re: The Russian Front... WW2
Nope I must have missed that... i'll see if I can "anytime" it ....
I have been watching the original world at war series from the mid 70's... I think that takes some beating, especially with Laurence Olivier doing the narrating.... classic

I'm sure it'll be one of those shows that will get endless reruns.

trying to picture how our media today might run their Headlines covering Stalingrad.
The Times: 'Stalingrad. Hitler seeks answers, Von Paulus takes charge'
The Guardian: Hitler's phone hacking scandal. Troops put at risk in Russia'
The Sun: "Stalingrad - The Hun on the Run"
The Telegraph: "Hitler starts ball rolling on formation of EU"
The Daily Mail: 'Eva Braun celebrates Stalingrad with new hair extensions and spray tan'

Only one certainty and that is that James Murdoch and Rebekah Brooks would have been having tea at the Berghof!
