A friend held a senior legal position in a County Council before retirement and learned to detest ALL politicians. He was Returning Officer at elections and tells me that for a few months after they are elected the new Councillor or MP are fired up with ambition and zeal. Between 6 to 12 months afterwards they change their tune. By this time the expenses system has been explained to them and all of the freebies that accompany the job as well. Then the bastards become just the same as ALL politicians. Vain, venal, lying, cheating, hypocritical two faced bastards.
It is the same the world over.
