Almost of of the Gitmo detainees, were captured on the battle in foreign countries. The U.S. government released and sent most detainees home. Only the most extreme and violent detainees remain. Obama wanted to close Gitmo, but mostly Republican but some Democrats, who blocked any appropriations for the purpose of keeping Guantanamo prisoners on American soil.

Yes, but a very small handful soldiers out hundreds of thousands of U.S. troops that have serviced in Iraq and Afghanistan. War crimes have happen in every war in history. Each soldier is heavily armed, and the bad apples can kill alot people before someone stops them.

Actually, Japan, Korea, Taiwan and many other countries want us sticking our noses in their business. The military didn't want to go into Iraq, but we swore allegiance to our Constitution which states that the President is the Commander and Chief, so they followed Bush's orders to invade Iraq.

If you did did a poll in Iraq, I think the vast majority of people, would say the war was worth it. Taliban and Al Qaeda detainees are pretty rough guys, so all those things you mentioned were for security reasons. Bales was aleast chained to the floor of the transport plane.

I notice this atrocity has been brought up in this discussion. I think this episode shows that certainly at the time troops didn't always, "Follow orders". During the massacre many of the troops involved refused to open fire and indeed a helipcopter pilot considered opening fire on his own troops.

I seem to recall that most of those that refused to join in the, "Fun" were black. Presumably, that being oppressed themselves, they had a healthy disrespect for the corrupt and immoral American war machine and its oppression and rape of the 3rd World.

Vietnam was set against the whole hippy culture of peace and love that was influencing the young and this in turn filtered its way to the troops in 'Nam who found themselves with a new mindset of what was morally right and what was wrong.

I wonder if in todays crazed and in their own belief "Omnipotent," US Army, any US troops would refuse a direct order to murder hundreds of, "Rag heads?" under some flimsy pretext? Somehow, I think they would not!

I wonder what other forummites would do in similar circumstances? Would you follow orders to murder innocents or would you refuse?
