Just when you thought that perhaps the rich in the light of the hardship being suffered by others, were reigning in their wanton greed, you read this:
This greedy bunch of scumbags believe that if you make ?10 million a year you should pay the same tax as a man or woman paying ?37,401 per year. They are suggesting that they would do, "Less tax avoidence" if this were the case and save the country, ?Billions.
Is this not the same as the "National Association of Looters" saying, "If shop owners simply left their doors open at night, we would not have the need to break in and/ or set fire to premises, this would save the country ?Billions every year!"
Surely at this time of recession, this pathetic bunch of spineless jerks, the governent, should be putting tax UP for high earners not considering lowering it. Why do these governments, whether they are Tory or New Labour, still believe that if you make the rich richer, somehow they will cast a few crumbs down to the rest of us? No they wont, they will just keep more for themselves!
Richard Branston after being told, "There are millions out of work and the country is in recession, sir!"
"Do I look like I give a fuck?

Sorry Jim but I disagree. The rich spend money and keep a lot of Britain's most successful companies going....Jaguar, Rolls Royce, Burberry, drinks companies like Diageo, airlines, luxury goods etc. Tax the rich and they can simply take their money abroad. Personally I want the basic tax rate threshold raised to ?10k. Where Ozzy needs to hit is tax avoidance and cases like Rangers where they owe millions and simply fail to pay year on year. He needs to develop a corporate PAYE as well as one for single citizens. And stop giving billions to third world lunatic leaders and the EU. Rule Britannia, screw the rest!

Agree completely.
I have never understood this "trickle down" concept where you let the well off get as rich as possible by various incentives and their wealth will trickle down to the less well off. Don't think it worked very well in the 19th Century according to my recall of Charles Dickens novels.
What a lot of people do not realise is that the 50% tax rate is just one aspect of income for the vast majority who get over ?150K a year.
1. The majority of such people will tend to have businesses such as limited companies which allow them to decide how to take money out of the company either as salary or in a more tax efficient way as dividends.
2. If a well-off person uses their full ?50K pension allowance, they only pay ?25K, the taxpayer i.e. you and me pay the other ?25K.
3. If they employ people, more often than not in the UK those people's salaries because they are so low (thinking about minimum wage in retail, service industries etc) the State has to subsidise them with tax credits and child credits just to help their workers get by.
4. If they are in property, the State subsidises them with huge amounts of housing benefits. The majority of people in London who get housing benefit are actually working but cannot pay the high rents without this help.
Etc etc. so the idea that a 50% tax rate in some way disincentivises business owners strikes me as laughable. These people who moan about their lot are just wealthy scroungers who cost the national purse far far more than the benefit scroungers we hear about endlessly in the tabloids.

Re:
You are right, if you have a compnay making enormous profits you can place all these profits into your pension scheme and claim ?millions when you retire. The man in the street knows nothing of all the legal scams still there for the rich to take advantage of. Yu will find no mention of this in your copy of The Sun!
Did the UK go down the toilet under Harold Wilson, did the Beatles go and live abroad because of this? No they didn't. If you cut the tax for the rich to zero, they would still moan and they would still not employ one more person than they need to employ!
......."The ?progressive? tax regime of former UK Prime Minister Harold Wilson was simply staggering, a top rate for income tax of 83 percent + a 15 percent surcharge on ?un-earned income? (investments and dividends), bringing the marginal rate of 98 percent (no typo). Reportedly, 750,000 British taxpayers were liable for a 98 percent tax rate in 1974. Is there a fine line between taxation and almost total confiscation, and when is that line crossed?"......
And the cunts still have the cheek to be whinging today! Where is a Maximillion Robespierre when you need him? As he so wisely quipped in 1794:
"Terror is nothing other than justice, prompt, severe, inflexible; it is therefore an emanation of virtue; it is not so much a special principle as it is a consequence of the general principle of democracy applied to our country's most urgent needs".

Re:
Agreed.
Given your picture of demi-god Richard Branson. You will be delighted to hear that Virgin are getting into the NHS child care business. Apparently Virgin Care are one of the frontrunners in a contract for all of Devon child care services e.g. care for vulnerable children, treatment of mentally ill children and families, and respite care for those with disabilities.
Have Virgin any experience of doing this? None whatsoever, but hey ya got to learn somehow.
Needless to say the process by which this was made possible was introduced by Labour to their shame, but I suspect that under the current lot we will see it happening in spades and spades.
I can see the adverts already. Refer two children to Virgin Care and get a 2 for the price of 1 train ticket to Carlisle.

Why would a rich person uproot their whole family. Take the kids out of school and move to another country to save a few quid. I don't belive they would. All bollocks.
The drip down effect is when the rich piss on us from a great height!
Re: Richard Branston
How has this greedy bastard managed to turn himself into the "Mr Nice Guy" of the Ruling Elite, feited by governments on Left and Right. Just because he wears woolly jumpers and looks like a cross between Jesus Christ and one of the Bee Gees does not alter the fact that he's one of the greediest fucking Scrooges on Earth. His staff put up with being treated like shit, because they've fallen for the "Branson "I'm a loveable old hippy" experience."
Here he is taking the piss out of Prof Stephen Hawking's robot voice:

Don't start me on the bleedin' Laffer Curve, no doubt dreamed up by a bunch of fat multi billionaires at some grotesque piss up of the Bilderberg Group annual "Let's whinge and moan about our sorry lot" event! "Yeah dudes, I got another theory, its called the "Godzillionaires Inversely Proportional Tax Curve Hypothesis", it shows that if we don't pay ANY TAX WHATSOVER, we'll buy billions more mansions and Krug and therefore create employment for millions of builders, architects and grape treaders!" followed by raptuous drunken applause!!wink!
