PHOTOSHOP Vs JPEG - INCONSISTENCY??

Post by pj »

I opened a jpeg the other day just to preview it and it was from a fashion show and the background lights were pink. when I went ahead to open the raw file to edit , the pic on raw file was dull and the background was purple??

Why can the raw file not open exactly as the jpeg looks, or is there a setting for this?

Thanks,

Pj

There is so much more info on a raw file, for one thing you have all choices of white balance when you edit, with the jpeg you have just one choice, if you need to edit in greater detail the colours, saturation, contrast and so on then it is RAW, however they are big files and it's slower process. Jpeg is a compressed file and raw is not a compressed file is a way of looking at this. To edit RAW files you need the software that came with the camera or a plug in, if using say a program like photoshop.

Cameras create JPG images from raw image sensor data based on your settings like Sharpness and White Balance.

Raw files are just the raw sensor data.

Because cameras have all sorts of clever processing coded into them, the jpeg will often look different from the raw file. And indeed in cameras where that processing is effective, jpegs may look better than raw files processed by someone who is not particularly good with Photoshop.

Ok, I better explain, I took it in BOTH raw and jpeg and I realised I didn't have to use the raw file at all as the jpeg was fine, save for a quick brightening in levels, but when i opened the raw, it was dull.

I was just wondering how can I get the raw to open and look like the jpeg does, but maybe there's no way.

Thaks anyway.

As far as I know, for the reason I have already explained, you can't.
