How to hack...

Post by max_tranmere »

Not that I want to do it or anything, but I am intrigued just how somone goes about hacking someone's phone or email account. The person doing it is a bad person and should be punished, but is also a very highly skilled and resourceful person aswell. I would imagine it would be possible to hack Facebook aswell, those people who have their photos as only available to 'friends' rather than to everyone could have their account hacked and people could see. I wonder how people learn these hacking skills, I mean it's not as if there is a college course called 'how to hack phones and emails'.

It's piss easy to hack someones voicemail, just ring your own mobile from another number for instructions...

With phones, it's usually because people don't change their passcode from the default one (have you?).

Therefore it's just a matter of trying 0000, 1111,1234 and you'll probably be in.

Likewise, with other accounts, it's probably just people trying obvious passwords. asdf, zxcv, 1234, all get used and are easy to find with just a little effort.

Most of the time it's people making it easy for the hacker, like locking the door, but leaving a note saying "key under mat"

Interesting. The hacking of phones sounds like quite an easy thing to do, but the hacking of email and Facebook accounts would probably be a bit harder because you only get a limited number of goes at the passowrd and you are then frozen out. If the number of attempts you had were unlimited you could set up a computer package that could try every letter and number combination until you found the right one.

Bruteforce hacks are very difficult, it can take hundreds of years to hit the right combination of letters, numbers and symbols, especially when you don't know how long the password is.

People have been jailed for refusing to give up their passwords. Truecrypt is supposed to be the dogs dangles these days.
