The Falklands Islands

If the Argentines want the Falklands Islands so much, why doesn?t the Government just offer to sell them for the right price?

I mean everything else, that hasn?t already been sold-off, is up for sale.

The money we got would help plug the hole in the deficient that the last Government created.

Two ways forward, we could make sure the "right price" includes a sum for what we think the value of that oil is, or are we saying we don't want to sell just yet until we can assess how much the oil is worth?

Either way selling them off has got to be the way forward.

I don't think any oil would be British???? It would belong to the Falkland islanders who would become very rich!

WE have been drilling for ages it is what most of this is about, Argentina closed all their ports and asked other counties in South America to do the same, the logistics of transporting any oil is a problem for the UK, this has been going on for years, I nearly invested in a company called Rockhopper back in March/April 2010 but they didn't find much of any worth.

But the Argies haven't got any money. They want them for free.

The oil thing is a hefty factor with the falklands - as the middle east slowly destabilises other sources of oil become more attractive. Scottish oil - the north sea and also the vast reserves off the west coast.

Then there are the falklands the oil there is significant but they need to work out how to get it out in a cost effective way - I sunk a fair few pounds into rockhopper a while back and think that ill get a good return on that as the price of oil increases it will become a viable resource.

All these problems would be overcome if we just sold the Falklands to Argentina.

All we need to do is make sure we include a sum for what we think the oil is worth (if it's there) when we arrive at the price tag.

Everything else we ever owned has been sold off or is up for sale, so why not the Falklands?

Have you ever thought about the 3000 falkland islanders who live there,do they not have a say in who governs them!

Everything has a price tag, this government should know this as much as anyone.

What about all the people who work (or worked) in all the industries that have been privatised or are about to be privatised?

I can't every remember them having been allowed a say in the process to sell off their industry, their primary source of income and in many cases something that's a major part of their life.

Give the Falkland Islanders a share in the proceeds, say 5%.

You know like everyone in the UK had the chance to buy shares in the Nationalised utilities when they were sold-off.
