the iron lady
This item is not intended as a debate on the pros and cons of Margaret Thatcher. I simply wonder if any other people on bgafd have seen the new
movie "The Iron Lady" and what they thought of it ?
It seemed to me it should have been titled "The Old Ga Ga Lady" or "The
Senile Old Lady" as it spends 70% of screen time showing a decrepit and
hallucinating Lady Thatcher and very little on her career.
While personally loathing her as PM, I can see, after watching the movie,
why her family and friends took exception to it. She is alive and presumably
not a total vegetable. So it seems in extremely poor taste to me to make a
cinematic biography of a living person and accentuate their present weak
position to the detriment of past achievments, whatever the merits of those
achievments might be.

But did she care about the feelings of others when she threw millions on to the scrap heap, what goes around comes around..
Re: the iron lady
The only thing that would encourage me to see this film is if they changed the last scene so that it showed her swinging from a lamp post in the style of Benito Mussolini.

Well Mr Thgring. I am utterly shocked. there me thinking the imperialist in you wouldve been a staunch supporter of the Iron Lady
A tad harsh comments made by all concerned so far. I was tempted to see it because I think Meryl Streep is a fine actress. I suspect Lady Thatchers reason for not attending the premiere would be largely to do with the fact she cares not for such things.
I'm sure Boadicea wasnt much respected as much as she was feared in her day, except Boadicea would cut the enemies head off. Thatcher would just take their balls instead. I'm no fan of the tories but I respect Lady Thatcher even if I dont believe in all she stood for.
She put paid to the whole feminists argument that women arent given equal opportunities.
She certianly was no where as bad as Hitler and I thought Downfall was a great film well overdue another watch I think
