This is what money buys you, a barrister with imagination and flair. The old, "I'm researching a book" defence was a masterpiece, obviously you can only ever use it once. No other defendant can now use it as Townsend has claimed it for himself. Some folk even allege that stories of his own, "Abuse" were added to the mix, to make his defence all the more credible. To my knowledge Townsend never completed his "book".

Glitter is on a completely different level, he brazenly took his PC into PC World to be serviced and some techie nosing around in his folders, found one called, "My Gang" opened it and saw thousands of illegal pics.

Both Townsend and Glitter have to live with a large stigma of shame
for the rest of their lives, people talking behind their backs, the gossip
on this site and a thousand others, the utter disgust felt by some
members of society, the developing myths, the fake "facts".
But did they stab anybody ? Kill someone, either intentionally, or in some
non-intended way like reckless driving ? Did they beat someone to pulp
or plan a murder ? The answer is no.
We are porn folk. We live in a glass house watched by ordinary people
all the time and are scum to most good society. Glitter, like Townsend,
may be a twat and the former is clearly a wanker (in all senses of the
word), but lets at least either ignore them or allow them some sense
of humanity, despite their past sins. Everyone has a right to second
chance in life and some friendship.

Sorry to spoil the thread by destroying the story, but the 'official glitter' twitter account isn't genuine. The real glitter is keeping a low public profile and has never used twitter or any other social networking sites.

Concerning Mr Townshend, the reason the police addressed him as Mr Townshend is because that's his name. No mystery there. By the way, he was never writing a book, nor did he ever claim to be writing a book, as certain people here have stated. The year before his arrest and police caution he had posted several essays online campaigning against child pornography and he claimed that he accessed the child porn site that had his credit card details as part of research for that campaign.

Pete Townshend certainly had spoken out about the availability of child porn online, which presumably is what saved him from public or press vitriol, as it made his story about research seem reasonably believable. I guess people have given him the benefit of the doubt.
